Good ideas for G/F xmas present

Hi all

Struggling this year for ideas, been with her for four years and we live together.

Have done the underwear thing, weekend away etc.

Up to about £100, hell she puts up with me, but things are tight this year.

Kudos for the best suggestion.

Cynthetiq 11-12-2003 07:31 AM

something made.... scrapbook? photo collage? mix tape or CD?

aphex140 11-12-2003 07:39 AM

good suggestion

Tried the tape method before as I have some decks, she though it was okay !
Not that she is mercenary, but not to impressed - could of been my cut and run method of mixing that I some times employ.

aaah.. no you have to spend time... that's what it's about.. spending the time.. putting in the love.

You know what I do? Whenever Quadrette and I are on airplanes, I pull out the SkyMall catalog (essentially just a catalog full of smaller catalogs) and we "window shop." I make mental notes of things that she reacts positively to and I put them on "my list." You could do the same - just sit down with a catalog one evening just for fun and look at items together - maybe you'll get some ideas.

BTW, this may help you in the future - I keep a list in my planner year-round, and whenever I hear her mention something she's interested in, I write it down. Any ideas that don't get used for Xmas can be used for birthday. :)

Some more ideas for you:

spa/salon treatment? (massage, manicure, facial)
weekend getaway vacation package?

quadro is on to it. You'll need to either shop with her, or start taking notes when you out and about. The catalog thing can happen anywhere. Maybe next time you're out for dinner, bring along a catalog and a notepad and tell her that you really want to get her something of her own choosing. I'll bet she'd like that!

Perhaps you can try tickets to a show/play/event/concert... etc. I got my girlfriend tickets to go see Stomp last year and she loved it.

Cowgirl boots are always fun!

The best gifts are ones she doesn't even know she wants. Obviously, I can't make a specific suggestion, but find something that she'll use often, or would save her time, or something that she's been meaning to get but hasn't for some reason. Or, like quadro said, make a note of things she seems to be interested in. If she's anything like the women I've been involved with, she'll be dropping hints like mad this time of year, just pay really close attention.

krwlz 11-12-2003 06:36 PM

Message to all the ladys as of rockizilla post... STOP DROPPING HINTS, your just setting yourself up for dissapointment. Tell us what you want in a little bit more explicit manor. Its not that we dont pay attention, but sometimes we just dont pick up on it right away.

My main issue is that I've only been dating my girlfriend for a bit over a month. Her birthday was no problem, as roses are simple, elegant, and made her very happy. However, I've got no idea about xmas and am notoriously bad at finding presents for people (to the point where I do my best to avoid the holidays altogether so I don't get presents and therefore don't "feel like I have to give something in return").

However, I do want to get her something, but I've got no idea where to begin. I guess I'll use the "hope she drops hints, or take notes on what she really seems to like" idea and hope it pans out.

Quadro
So sly I like it. I have to get more organised.
I think I will get her a power drill as she is always going on about putting up shelves.
Haa I love it, don't think she will.

seethreepo 11-13-2003 09:33 AM

power tools, girls love those. Or a mop.

seriously though if it come from the heart any reasonable girl will like it. Barring that something that smells nice, or is fattening allways works.

skysooner 11-13-2003 11:39 AM

A day at the spa is always good or buy her a massage. Another suggestion might be to pay for a massage class for both of you and then try it out on each other.

scansinboy 11-13-2003 12:49 PM

Does she collect anything?
My GF collects those seraphim angels and they come out with one or two new ones every year so that's always my failsafe.
This year she just wants me to take her shopping for some new clothes, although I think I might surprise her with a cruise vacation.
What sucks though is her birthday is three weeks later. And she's starting to get antsy about getting a ring.
I hate the holidays.

Snakebyt 11-13-2003 05:06 PM

maybe a day at the spa.. you know.. get her hair done, massage, facial ( NO, not like that :)) get her nails done... maybe you can get a good deal, or a package that offers that... all girls like to be pampered from time to time

ratbastid 11-13-2003 05:17 PM

Hey, some girls DO love power tools. lurkette's been lusting after a Dremel for quite a while now.

<3 for the dremel... and even more for a woman that likes power tools :)

Yea my suggestion was gonna be a scrapbook or some kind of collage. I don't know how we're supposed to out do ourselves every year.

nirol 11-13-2003 06:20 PM

Vacuum Cleaners are very practical gifts. Better get a blanket too, gets chilly in the dog house this time of year.

I try to find something that is very nice that they would not by for themself. I try to stay with things that they would use everyday, but just get the one that is just a bit nicer than she would buy.

Its the thought that counts, so put a lot of that into it.

tikki 11-13-2003 10:35 PM

Get on eBay and get a Kate Spade knockoff. I got those when I couldn't afford to buy her the real thing...

ARTelevision 11-14-2003 03:57 PM

Oh yeah, I thought of another one - a nice cowgirl hat is sweet! She'd love that!
