SAT Scores

I want to see the types of scores that people got on the SAT, as well as what colleges they attend(ed), and their current jobs, to see an overall relationship, if it exists, between SAT scores and life.

I took the SAT on October 11th, and got my scores online yesterday:

Math: 600
Verbal: 760
Total: 1360

krwlz 10-25-2003 06:16 PM

Im first year in college. Going to HVCC (communiuty college) because my grades in high school were poor. (I hated Highschool, I slacked a lot)

Math:650
Verbal:680
Total:1330

Averett 10-25-2003 06:37 PM

HVCC!!!!

Harvard on the Hudson!

Colonie with dorms!

Too funny...

Jolt 10-25-2003 06:38 PM

hmm, can I remember from 12 years ago?

I *think* mine was 1380; I'm sure my verbal score was higher than math.

I enrolled at a small-ish liberal arts type college as a prospective modern languages major...then transferred to a much larger technical univ to pursue information technology. I proceeded to flunk out rather quickly.

I have since had two full-time jobs, both of which have involved assembling/testing/troubleshooting computers.

Lasereth 10-25-2003 07:09 PM

I made a 1150 on it, but I'm thorougly convinced that the SAT is bullshit anyway. My brother took it twice. The first time he made a 910, and the second time he made a 1180. Almost 300 points difference just by taking it twice? Ha ha.

-Lasereth

Pragma 10-25-2003 07:11 PM

I took mine four years ago now, and didn't take them seriously at the time (I just wanted to get done with them), but here's what I remember:

Total: 1490
Math: 730
Verbal: 760

The_Dude 10-25-2003 07:19 PM

Math : 720
Verbal : 680

Total : 1400

That was the 2nd time, which was a little bit better than first time.
It was all good.

1337haxor 10-25-2003 07:41 PM

After 2 tries I got 1160 :(
English: 520
Math: 640

Nimbletoe 10-25-2003 07:47 PM

Didn't take the SAT, because I hate taking standardized tests and the ACT was enough for me. I go to a private liberal arts college in Michigan, not sure on major yet.

Freda Peeple 10-25-2003 08:18 PM

I got a 1420. 800 verbal, 620 math (bleh). Pure luck on the verbal.

yellowgowild 10-25-2003 09:51 PM

Got a 1240 or something, not proud of it.

bermuDa 10-25-2003 10:14 PM

I never took any preparation classes or psat. woke up 10 minutes before the test, finished 20 minutes before everyone else, went home and fell back asleep. I don't remember the individual scores but I got something like a 1260... I really didn't give a shit since I wasn't planning on going to college at the time.

and here I am, going to college and I don't think my SAT scores counted for shit anyways... *shrug*

In 4th grade I tested on the high school senior level in Math and English... and some online IQ test told me I had 140. I don't put much faith in test numbers.

halfshot182 10-25-2003 10:17 PM

1370.... this was the morning after the night of prom.... hehe. needless to say i was tired and should have done better.

Im attending a community college right now and i work at walgreens pharmacy as a pharmacy technician..

Anyway...I have know clue what I got on my SAT's so I'll say around a 1200...that sounds good to me.

matt_mll 10-25-2003 10:45 PM

never took the SAT. went to community college for two years, then will be transfering to a state college.

numist 10-25-2003 11:20 PM

Im a second year in college, so the numbers on the math and verbal may be off by 10 or so, but the total is correct...

Total: 1340
Math: 710
Verbal: 630

strcrssd 10-26-2003 02:30 AM

You all make me feel dumb.

IIRC my score was skewed because of my learning disability w/math (I have no ability to remember formulae, which makes math at trig and above very very difficult)

1280 combined

costello 10-26-2003 02:40 AM

ACT was enough for me so didnt take SAT either. 26 on the ACT though. dunno if you could translate that to a SAT score or if its even possible.

manalone 10-26-2003 04:53 AM

what's the best score you can get?
I got 465 points in my Leaving Cert (out of 600)... enough for my course in College.

That's all that matters.

lurkette 10-26-2003 05:29 AM

Math 700
Verbal 750
Total 1450
ACT 32

I went to St. Olaf College in Northfield MN (shoulda gone to Carleton)

I'm now a research administrator.

sailor 10-26-2003 06:42 AM

1330.

I should have taken the ACT. I am curious now as to what I could have gotten on it.

Pragma 10-26-2003 07:00 AM

manalone: The top score you can get is 1600, 800 math, 800 verbal.

Because of the evils of religious oppression I didn't have an opportunity to take advantage of it until now.

As for those who feel dumb.
SAT scores don't make you a superior human being... it's how you affect other peoples lives that makes you superior/inferior.

dimbulb 10-26-2003 10:20 AM

1580
780 Verbal
800 Math

Pretty EVERYONE in my high school gets 800 for their MATH... SAT math isn't very hard. I didn't study for it at all. Much easier than my high school exams, which were the British GCE O Levels.

The SATs are supposed to be a measure of general ability, not a measure of knowledge, so there isn't much point in trying to study for it. You end up with the sad situation of teachers trying to 'prepare' students for the SATs by drilling them with word analogies and other bullshit like that. No point. Just get them to read and write ( in complete sentences, not the rubbish IMglish that you tend to see nowadays... ) more....

YzermanS19 10-26-2003 10:38 AM

Didn't take the SAT's. Got a 30 on the ACT. I have no idea what that is in SAT scores. I should have taken it again (I took it twice my junior year and improved from 26 to a 30. If I would have taken it once more, I'm sure I would have gotten atleast a 32-33)

I'm like in the 99% for reading and math on the ACT's.

I guess I just didn't like the sat...

tj2001cobra 10-26-2003 03:16 PM

I know I am making excuses here, but I actually passed out during my SAT test. The girl behind me kicked me and woke me up. The night before was graduation night for the class above me and I had alot of friends that were leaving. I threw up 3 times and got to bexd at about 4 am. ugh

790 Math
410 Verbal - I couldn't comprehend shit.
-----
1200

I think I would have made between 1400-1500 had I been coherent but I wasn't.

I got a 33 on my ACT which got me into any college that I was looking at.

Ended up at UT (what a mistake).

tikki 10-26-2003 03:18 PM

I am feeling dumb compared to everyones scores around here.

I got an 1100 and ended up at Purdue. I didn't take the ACT because I had senioritis way too bad.

Sledge 10-26-2003 03:37 PM

1600. I attend Brown University but was rejected from all the other Ivy Leagues but Cornell. High scores guarantee nothing.

Sledge 10-26-2003 03:38 PM

Double post. See? Not that smart.

uncle phil 10-26-2003 03:44 PM

took both SAT and ACT, but too long ago to remember...I think I did alright with my life regardless...

majik_6 10-26-2003 09:06 PM

Verbal-800
math-640
Total 1440 (does that add up right?!)

I quit taking math after basic intro trig stuff, since I saw no need for it as an English major (and I wanted to graduate HS in 3 years with Honors, decided to stay for an extra year anyways, aka-senior year/no serious classes).

I must say, I felt pretty good about my scores til I saw some of these!! :)

Sledge, that's absolutely amazing!

Overall, this whole group seems to be above average!

Yup, another upstater ;)

I got 1080 on my SAT's.. blah.

MSD 10-26-2003 10:56 PM

I'm at UCONN now, and I do distinctly remember taking the SAT's twice, and some SAT II's. I don't feel that my SAT I scores accurately reflected my ability level. SAT II's, I got 740 for Writing, 680 on Physics halfway through a year-long physics class, and I'm fairly sure I got some number on some other test that I think I took at the same time as those two.

onetime2 10-27-2003 05:28 AM

Back when I took it there was little in the way of strategy around taking it and prep classes had yet to become the norm. Not that it would have mattered since I knew everything when I was young and probably wouldn't have taken the courses anyway.

I took the SAT three times. First time was in seventh grade. I got like a 900 without ever having taken any real math courses. My mom tried to tutor me but I just wasn't into it. I mean come on, trying to sell a multi-hour test to a kid who just wants to play baseball/football/ride motorcycles?

The second time I got like an 1150. The third time I took it because I was trying to up my overall application score for the Air Force Academy. Got 1250.

Didn't get into the Academy despite having a congressional recommendation since I was seriously light on extracurricular activities and I wasn't "well rounded enough".

Got accepted to a bunch of engineering schools Ga Tech, NJIT, Stevens Institute but went with Rutgers School of Engineering since I had a feeling I wouldn't stick out the engineering stuff. I just couldn't see myself as an ME for the next 20 years. Went with economics instead.

I took it back before the recentering of the scores, but more importantly, took the PSAT really early one morning, and that one morning's worth of work was worth about $75,000 in scholarships. I really love standardized testing!

tj2001cobra 10-27-2003 08:51 AM

Has the test changed since 1990? That is when I took it.

BonesCPA 10-27-2003 09:07 AM

Math 750
Verbal 600

Either we have a very test-oriented community, or there are some puffing of numbers.

Sledge 10-27-2003 09:53 AM

I don't think anyone with lower scores likes to share about them. Which is why nobody knows anything about my CS classes, I don't talk about them :P

macmanmike6100 10-27-2003 10:27 AM

1460, can't remember where the delineation btwn math and verbal was

shalafi 10-27-2003 10:46 AM

I think i got a 1290 when i took it but that was 10 or 11 years ago. I do remember it was one of the highest in my shcool and I didnt do any of the preparation classes or books. I believe i had to take the act as well because i waited like 3 or 3 1/2 years before going to college. I have no clue what i scored on that. All i was worried about was not having to take the no-credit intro math and english classes so i didnt sweat that very much when i took it.

I went to Indian River Community College (aka the University of Virginia Avenue) for a while but never graduated. I still pop in for a class once in a while when i have time. I work in the IT dept. for a citrus company.

Yes it has. There has been at least one redesign and they're even allowed to use calculators now.

Pragma 10-27-2003 01:33 PM

Yes, the test has changed. I believe back around 1995 or 1996, they "recentered" the test, so that all scores prior to that should be considered 200 points higher than what you actually got, when compared to modern tests.

But that's just a vague memory.

Sledge 10-27-2003 02:04 PM

They're changing it again in '06. There's going to be a new essay component and the maximum score will be 2400.

mingusfingers 10-27-2003 02:56 PM

Is it much of a hassle to take it in Canada? Not planning on attending any universities in the states.

In 1995, I believe, the test became less of an IQ test and more of a knowledge test. In fact, before that, it could be used to get into Mensa. In, 2005, the analogies are going to be eliminated and there will be an essay section.

1110 i think was my score

I know someone who took a $700 prep course and ended up getting around a 1000. I felt bad that they threw away all that cash and i did better than them with little to no prep.

I did this for my college placement tests. I got home at 5 am and was woken up at 6am by two friends who were taking me there. I did horrible on the Math but somehow did much better than I should have on the language portions. That was a REALLY rough morning.

SecretMethod70 10-28-2003 05:11 AM

I forget what my SAT score was - not as important for midwest schools. My ACT score, however, was 33.

Oh yeah, and I currently go to DePaul University in Chicago.

It wasn't an across the board 200 point bump, but instead, they would adjusted your score so that there was a bell curve at 1000. If you were above or below average significantly, there would have been less of a difference.

a_divine_martyr 10-28-2003 08:55 AM

First time I took it I was in 7th grade. Did some Duke Unniversity thing.

Got like a 1020 on it, I think.

I don't remember my scores for my junior and senior years... :(

G_Whiz 10-28-2003 11:28 AM

I don't have much to share here. I took my SATs and ACTs in 1964. I can guarantee you that I don't remember the scores (not that they would matter much at this point).

My scores were good enough for me to be accepted into UC Berkeley in 1965.

Two Master's degrees (MBA, Petroleum Engineering), Bachelor's (Geology). I work as a senior engineer.

As an addendum, when I took the tests to get into graduate schooo, I had near perfect scores on the equivalent type test. (800 math and 750 verbal). I just don't recall whether this was the GRE or the GMAT.

Litespeed 10-28-2003 01:26 PM

Never took the SAT. How about the ACT?

HamiC 10-28-2003 07:05 PM

Broke 1,000 in 7th grade.......did much better 1,400+ in high school. Meanwhile, throughout HS and college, I couldn't get good grades to save my life. And no....I wasn't bored or lazy.

I am an absolute believer that these kind of tests measure only one thing....how good you are at taking standardized tests. As a matter of fact, I taught a prep course for a while and used to blow people away when I could show them the right answer to certain verbal questions without seeing the question.

High scores. Low scores. Neither really matters. There are much more important measures of success.

(P.S. -- Went to Bowdoin....where test scores are not required.)

Coolidge 10-28-2003 09:41 PM

Got me on the split scores, but I remember getting a 1420

Jimbob666 10-29-2003 12:34 AM

I got a 1600, 780's or better on 6 different SAT 2's, and have spent the past 3 years narrowly avoiding being kicked out of college for an abyssmal GPA. Multiple guess tests are a joke, and mean nothing.

Jervis 10-29-2003 08:41 AM

I don't feel as much as a nerd as the rest of you guys. I walked into the test cold-turkey and got a 1250. I think it was almost evenly divided between math and verbal. I took it in 2001 and I don't remember being allowed to use calculators at all

theinfamous 10-29-2003 09:09 AM

OFKU0 10-29-2003 10:57 AM

I know some people with 1550-esque scores who Constantly bring it up in conversations. If you honestly think that a Standardized Test is any real means of how Intelligent you are, you probably have your priorities all out of whack

670 m I think

I ended up going to Lehigh University.

Like it's been said already, the test doesn't measure all that much. My brother got a 1290 on his sat and graduated 3rd in his engineering class at Lehigh - so go figure.

yournamehere 11-02-2003 01:14 PM

I took both the SAT and ACT - but it's been so long ago, I have no idea what I scored - other than good enough to get accepted at the 4 colleges to which I applied. Anyone out there know how I can find my scores? Not that they mean anything at this point in my life. Just curious.

NeverBorn 11-02-2003 01:59 PM

SAT waste of time..took the ACTs once my senior year..I was even thinking about the future..I despised high school. I got a 27 and like Yzerman I got a 99% on my reading. The part that was bad was math and thats because I only took up to geometry in high school cause math fucking sucks. Course I could lie and be like..oh man check my 1540 on the SATs to make you guys think I'm badass

Ha ha, I laughed out loud on that one.

Lasereth 11-02-2003 05:43 PM

It's annoying when people say they made XXXX on the SAT and say that it's bad. The national average is 950-1000. If you make anything above 850 you're fine. If you made below it, yet were actually smart enough to take it, then something went wrong. Like I said before, my brother took it twice in the same week and made a 950 the first time and almost a 1200 the second time. I don't see how the SAT can be used for anything if scores fluctuate that much.

-Lasereth

carpal 11-02-2003 05:53 PM

Mine was something like 1290. Can't complain too much, I guess. It was my first try, and I wasn't about to go back for another.

cjayemail 11-02-2003 07:07 PM

I'm still a senior in high school and only took the SAT's twice.
my score from the first attempt was a 1340, my 2nd time taking the test i dropped a few points in each category.
i havn't gone and wasted my time again, i did alot of vocab/sat strats in my lit. class last year and i'm sure now that I havn't done anything SAT related in about 5 months, my score couldnt really improve, but im happy with it

WarWagon 11-02-2003 07:14 PM

I got a 1270 and got into all schools I applied to, but I think that the SAT's and ACT's and just about any standardized test are the biggest crock of shit, and that they are absolutely worthless in determining just how capable a person is of doing well, and they sure as hell shouldn't be used as much as they are in determining college acceptance, scholarships, etc. I got a 1270, and consider myself damn lucky to have even gotten that as I usually second guess myself a lot and overthink, and I test poorly as a result. Thats part of the reason why I do so crappy on midterms and finals, too, even if I know the material like the back of my hand usually.

The way I see it, the inability to test well is a single "flaw" if you want to call it that, and the fact that peoples careers and educational opportunities are so dependent on it is almost disgusting.

By the way, by testing well I dont mean be put in a scenario, and asked to complete a task. Hell, I'm on the OSU rifle team and do some of my best shooting in crunch time and high stress situations, but stick me in front of a piece of paper and pencil and a 2 hour time limit and its just not happening.

Eldaire 11-03-2003 12:24 AM

Davidson College, but I'm thinking of dropping out and attending an easier college and becoming a teacher. It's what I really want to do, but I don't think my parents or friends would like that decision, so I'm passive-aggresively failing out. Is it wrong that I know that and I'm still doing it? PM me if you want to talk. I'm on a general discussion posting spree right now and I prolly won't check this again.

Took SAT's twice. Got an 1180, and then decided to actually put some effort into it. 1440.

Applied to a bunch of state schools because that's all my parents can afford. I really want to get into Pittsburgh or Tulane though.

soccerchamp76 11-03-2003 11:50 AM

Really really high scores here......damn....a couple perfects, lots above 1400.
1st: 580/580 - 1160
2nd: 570/580 - 1150
ACT: 28

Got into Purdue, but going to apply to SLU and Xavier.

I think that 90% of you are lying and the other 50% are full of shit. :-)

However, if you aren't, this should officially be considered the smartest forum on the web.

780 - Math
740 - Verbal

Cornell University - Class of 2004 - Aeronautical Engineering

Additionally, 2 of +/- 90 people on this thread claimed to have scored perfect on their SATs.

In 2003, 697 out of 3.5 million students scored perfect on their SATs.

National Average of Students Scoring Perfect = 0.02%
Tilted Forum Average of Students Scoring Perfect = 2.22%

Unlikely!

punx1325 11-07-2003 01:25 PM

I got a 1060. I am horrible at the verbal part. The reading always ripped me a new one. My GPA was a 3.7 and I got into my school so I didn't really care.

fienna 11-08-2003 01:17 PM

got a 1060 in the 7th grade... my high school scores were a lot higher... it means shit, though - honestly, all the SAT does is screen out people who REALLY have low scores - you get into college based on your extra-curricular activities more then anything else - honestly. if you're an athlete at all, and are in like 1 or 2 clubs and maybe an honor society or something like that, you're probably going to get into 90% of the schools out there if your SAT's break 1100...

just my 2 cents.

730 Math
710 Verbal
1440 Total

Got me into the college of my choice, at which I am currently a sophomore :)

20 years ago I took my first and last SAT while hung over from a party and on two hours sleep. I made a 1254 and walked away thinking I had botched it pretty badly. It was good enough to carry in my file and I had a football scholarship too so it didn't really matter much.

I wonder how I would do at 37 on the current SATs. Probably not very well.

crow_daw 11-09-2003 09:50 AM

Well, I haven't taken the SAT because in my area its all about the ACT, don't really know whats up with that. But on my ACT I made a 32, with a perfect score in Reading. I woulda had about a 34-35 but my math brought me down a little bit.

aa1037 11-11-2003 12:08 AM

1290 SAT
30 ACT

I'm currently a freshman at Syracuse University

lordjeebus 11-11-2003 12:15 AM

I did exceptionally well. I still received as many rejections as acceptances.

At my school I meet people with perfect and near-perfect scores. Some are true geniuses. Most studied hard and had $$ for Princeton Review or Kaplan.

My girlfriend scored in the bottom 20% or so of people at my school. (She had neither the money nor the time to do SAT-prep, and used her time for much more fulfilling artistic pursuits) Her GPA is probably in the top 25% here.

I don't really understand what the point of SAT is if you can alter your score so dramatically through targetted preparation.

I suspect that low scorers simply aren't posting. They should though.

790 Math
750 Verbal

Denison University and then Michigan State University

I was always pissed because I didn't do well on the PSAT for some reason (probably got my scores switched or something) and therefore lost most of my scholarship chances.
