Whats the coolest gift you ever got?

I remember for me 7th or 8th birthday, I got a little toy van that had superman on the side. I got lots of other stuff that year too, that was much bigger and more expensive. But for some reason I just couldnt leave that little toy van alone. I would play with it for hours and hours. Does anyone remember getting a really cool gift?

For a good year in school, my dad bought all the lumber i needed to make a one man canoe (he made/makes gorgeous strip built conoes). Greatest gift ever. I spent a lot of time in the shop with him, and the boat turned out beautifly.

Actually for my last birthday, my 20th, my mom bought me my second Technics turntable. Aside from how much they cost, she had to search all over town, and find out which model I already had so they'd match, and she found a scorching deal. Plus she knew I couldn't afford one for a long time...

This may seem like a small thing, but I got a little telescoping metal backscratcher as a stocking stuffer one year, and I still love that thing!

Last year my mom made me a cookbook that had recipes from my relatives and pictures of each of them. Very cool, especially since we couldn't go home for Christmas.

Nice b-day gift forseti-6. Mine was a guitar too, just a little older. When I was about 8 my Dad bought me an old electric guitar for no reason that I can remember. Thats what got me started playing. It's was an old 1959 black Silvertone with lipstick tube pickups that had been well used. That was twentysome years ago and I've still got it. I've went thru a lot of guitars since then but I'll never let that one go.

Mine was a Birthday gift when I turned 5. It was a huge lego set that could fill an entire shoe box and a half.

Every B-Day after that there was more Lego added to the collection.

Back when the PS2 came out and I was still living with the folks my parents didn't get me one. Or so I though. Around Feburary I was in the shower and I hear someone come into my room. So I stay in the shower 'til I hear the door shut and I come out and change. After I was done I layed back and noticed something next to me. T'was a PS2. "Oh joy!" I screamed as I ran through the house. Was a happy day.

When I was about a year away from moving out on my own, my parents went to an auction in February. They bought me a beautiful rocking chair then hid it in their room to give to me the following Christmas. (My birthday had already passed.) For an entire year I could not go in their bedroom as I would see the gift. (I like surprises so I stayed away, but it was tough.) When I recieved it Christmas morning I was so touched that they actually stored it in their bedroom for 10 months. It was definitely an inconvience to them and a true gift of love.

My friends gave me a night-out as a going away gift.

A stretch limo, the driver dressed up as Elvis in alligator skin leather.
A city-tour with drinking galore
A barely dressed Brunette on one arm, and a tall Platnim blonde on the other.
Backstage passes to a Dio concert.
And an after-concert party with the band.

I'm a lucky man...I wish I didn't live so far away from them.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the full story? If you don't mind sharing, that is.

Mine would be the Canon Coolpix 3100 [3.2 mp] that my parents got me for my 20th birthday. I'm a gadget whore and a bit of a photo nerd so it was perfect

My wife made me a box of about 60 little beanbags.

Why you ask?

I am glad you asked. Whenever people at work are REALLY stupid, I throw things at them. After loosing yet another screw-driver in the wall (a Snap-On to boot) she made the beanbags because they were disposable, and probably wouldn't hurt people.

How wrong she was... how wrong she was.

I can't compare with the gift of life, but my parents got me the office chair I'm sitting in as we speak.

Why is this memorable?

Well I'm 6'9" and weight around 320 at the moment. I would go through an office chair every six months or so, so my parents decided to get me a decent one as a reward for a good first semester. The spring on this sucker is so tough that most people can't even push it back.

I love it.

Most expensive - My parents bought me a brand new 1992 Nissan 240SX-SE when I graduated high school.

Most memorable - a carving my late grandfather gave me. He also used to give me jujubees every year. We couldn't buy them in Texas back then so he had a place he would go get them and then send them to me. I used to shake the box every birthday I had because I knew they would be in there.

Longest Lasting - My grandmother made me two feather pillows when I was 4 or 5. My mom made the two small pillows into one about 12-13 years ago. I still have the pillow and use it every night. My head mushes right through it. I could bsically sleep without a pillow, but there is a comfort level there.

Greatest "non-physical" gift - playing cards with my other grandpa every time we went to see them. It was a ritual. We always took time to do it. Just he and I. None of the other grandkids or my sisters. He taught me cribbage and gin. He never "let" me win. He treated me like an adult. I loved it.

Life! I tried to comit suicide when I was about 15 - I was very thankfully stopped from doing so by my sisters boyfrind. I locked everyone in the house, took the keys with me and tied myslef up in the tree in our back garden. He jumped out of a window and climbed the tree behind me. Got there about 3 seconds before I jumped and talked me down. I've never been so grateful (in hindsight) in my life, as I now have a degree and a good job!

Other, slightly less gifts:

A wedding present:

and, of course, the wife that came with it... .
