Ever Google somebody's name?
Say you meet somebody... And you wanna know a bit more about them. Ever go to Google and search for their name?
I just did this... Found a bit of information actually. And one bit that might be the guy, but I'm not quite sure. Anyway, am I crazy to do that? Has anyone else done this? I'm not a stalker... just really bored! |
sure... ego surfing is a thing to do... also if you have any friends who are even mild celebrities... :) brings up some interesting things...
|
I've found out what old classmates are doing these days, thanks to Google.
|
Lol, *goes to do it now*.
|
I searched my name but nothing came up. Well, nothing for me anyway. I'll have to get my name out there online more often ;)
|
Apparently I hold a Ph.D in Chemical Engineering and an MD.
YAY ME! |
I just searched for a guy that I went to high school with. Apparently, there was a chance that he could've been drafted by the NFL. Unfortunately he didn't, and I was looking to see if any teams picked him up yet.
|
I've searched my name and friend's names on google before. It was kind of unsettling that other people had my same name...
|
Yeah... I have a bunch of old High School track and cross country times, plus comments I've made in a couple papers, etc.
As well, I've found that I founded a Presbyterian church somewhere in the South in the 1920s. :-) |
I do it, tammy.
We're both freaks. |
Yeah, I've googled. Sometimes it's kind of awkward learning information about someone and either having to explain how you know it or act like you don't. Example: before my girlfriend and I had our first date, I googled her name and found out where she went to college and grad school and her birthdate. She asked me where I went to school, and I didn't want to say "and I already know where you went, because I researched you on the web," and then watch her run out of the room in fear of a mad stalker.
Other times it can be good to google people. I always search google groups for ebay names of sellers I'm thinking about buying from to see if anyone's bitched about them (I learned this the hard way when I did a search after I had gotten ripped off and found like 20 posts of people unhappy with the guy). Google me and you get the production notes from an unedited filmed interview I did 5 years ago with a word for word transcription of the interview, including every "uhhh..." "errr..." and notes like [SCRATCHES ARMPIT]. Not very flattering. |
absolutely, I do it all the time, it's fun :)
I don't see anything wrong with it, at least if it's not the same person multiple times of course. |
I did my math teacher. Its funny before coming to my school he used to teach at a college in Wisconsin. One night he got drunk stumbled home and broke into his neighbors house thinking it was his own.
|
i searched for an old highschool crush once. :-x got his bootleg tradelist website and his email address and.........emailed him some silly messge about what i was doing and where i was going to college. then months later i got his aim and IMed him. :-x hahahahhaha stalker much? :)
|
Yep, googling people is great fun. :) But I don't usually trst the results too much. For instance, apparently every other female in the world has the same name as me, and if you "google" my name, first and last, you get like twenty million different people. So you never know if its the right person or not. Oh well, still fun. :)
|
google has a bunch of other cool features, you can just type in someone's phone number and you get their address and a link to mapquest or somehting like that to get directions to their house
|
I do this all the time, mostly for people I used to know that I haven't seen in 10 or 20 years. Most of them are off the radar, but a surprising number aren't. I'm a pretty good researcher; so if they're out there, I can find them.
I researched one guy I used to work for who was an actual card-carrying Commie, a total revolutionary. Now he's living in a posh surburb, belongs to the Democratic Central Committee, and has a couple of kids in high school. I'm pretty sure it's him, because he used to live one town over when I knew him, and he's got an unusual last name. Another guy I used to work for was the ultimate young-Republican buttoned-down venture-capital-grubbing software entrepreneur. Now he's a charismatic preacher in Chicago. Got his email address and chatted him up, and yep, it was actually him. Unfortunately, he hadn't improved. I love doing this stuff. Problem is, I'm getting so old I'm forgetting a lot of names and that's kind of limiting, ...... uh, what was I saying? |
apparently, i'm the first professional ice skater to openly declare that i'm gay.
|
I do it all the time, especially with friends. I try not to do it with people I've just met because I have found myself, at times, acting differently from knowing this new piece of information. But usually I do it anyway, I can't help it, I'm addicted to Google. :)
|
Only myself. All of the class reunion pictures were easily found. Someone from work did that, and put my pics all around the building. I thought it was pretty funny, all of my pictures showed me and a beer or two.
|
i have. i wanted to see pic's and other info.
|
Yeah, when i was really bored.
|
I've searched people from high school's names, but I've never found anything.
|
I've done it before, for my name. At first I used my first and middle name and got tons of hits, then added my middle name and then I got almost none hehe.
|
never tried it.. but i probably will now...
|
I found myself in the National Student Research Center's scientific journal (science reports by elementary school kids) and a picture of me from my HS fencing team's website.
A good friend of mine seems to be living a double life working for websites with titles such as "HOT ANAL ACTION WITH [name removed]" |
Hell yeah!
I've googled lots of people. I surprised myself when I found my name come up because I had a question I asked of the tech guy at the Chicago Tribune published in the paper. Weird feeling. |
I have done it a few times, Nothing spectacular came up. But I like Googling peoples names under the Image search...Sometimes it's funny the pictures that you come up with.
I actually started a thread on TFP 3.0, I asked everybody to search thier name under the Image search and post the first picture that came up. |
I Googled a friend that I went to school with, and the first thing up was her web page for the wedding! It was cool. Didn't try me...dunno if I want to!
|
I googled my name, "Dominic Arenas", quotation marks and all, and what do I get?
Well, why dont you see for yourself. |
little ever turns up about me, having all too common a name & nicks, but that's quite ok fine! in fact i seriously prefer it that way.
now i'd never thought of nor heard of googling phone #s & luckily we have a non-published # so nothing turned up, but i googled a couple friends' & my parents' & there they were! whoa. O_O |
hahaha looking at the phone # aspect again, google/yahoo/mapquest tends to screw up the zip codes. that's good!
cuz that'd be too damn scary if it gave out street addys. |
i google search everyone.
its great to find out little tid-bits that are good for conversations later. so long as you donīt list off important details of their lives and come across as a desperate stalker, its great. sadly, my name comes up with nothing. |
I think this was posted here before (but at another forum). Check out www.googlism.com. It's pretty cool.
|
yup...searched old high school friend to see if they had webpages
|
If you google my name, William Edelmayer, the first result will be that of the website I did in college (last summer).
Neat, huh? |

I've done it a few times out of curiosity. It doesn't work for my name though because I have a very common first name and an incredibly common hispanic last name.
|
Done it and found a girl i went to high school with 35 years ago. Really interesting what you can do these days.
|
I just performed a search for my name and, how funny, look what popped up:
- from urbandictionary.com : is a krunk ass nigga. - I live in NYC and enjoy taking pictures of Central Park - own my own beerhouse is Germany - have won many prestigious awards in several areas which include art, sports and photgraphy. |
my name is Jesiah
a fairly rare name, seeing as my mom made it up, and anyone else who has it has either also had it made up, or is of some ethnicity... interestingly, www.jesiah.com used to be a Christian rock group. luckily, they went bunk, so now I can get my domain back ;) I just googled my name again, and found an interesting bible site that states that Jesiah is another translation of Issaiha.. and also found a RPG site of someone who used the shortening of my name along with my name - Jesiah & Jesi and now that I've posted this, the TFP will probably come up too ;) |
I must be pretty important, as there were 45 hits from my name. And my name is not one that is repeated often. Many of them were from guitar tabs that I had posted, of course, but the other 1/2 were from newspaper articles
|
We did this in school a couple years ago. It basically shows you anything with the name in it. Usually it is someone else with that name that shows up. Especially with people who have very common names.
|
I've done a search for my own name, and I get tons of links for this goofy looking ba'hai/christian? musician guy, plus a couple for myself for japanese language stuff and martial arts sites.
Have been checking for a girl I almost dated when I was 12 years old (in 1992) for a long time now.... I really liked her, but my friend thought she wasn't cool.. and he called her and said I thought she was a 'stupid bitch'. I didn't have the strength of character to stand up to my 'friend' and I moved on. I've been trying to find her to apologize for about 6 years now (just for that, I'm engaged anyway - just want to let this girl know that I was sorry). If anyone knows a Nicole Beattie that used to live in Northern Ontario, Canada, send her here ;) |
---and if google doesn't work try anywho.com ---lot
of good stuff..... time out---just put my name into google and got 47, 400 hits, and I have a very long last name....can't wait to see who I might be......switchs browser--click:D |

|
One of the first links that came up when I Googled my first & last names was this site: Tim Smith dot Com about how I'm apparently running for Mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I'm just so glad I don't look like that asshole.
Disclaimer: The comments made about Tim Smith above reflect no personal insult, as I neither have read nor care to read his site and determine whether he is or is not an asshole. |
yeah i tied searching for me. Couldnt find me anywhere. :(
|
Woah... I tried www.anyhoo.com, and it came up with the person's address and home phone number who I originally was looking for.... Stalker here I come!
|
apparently I am a large, black college football player!
Who knew? I thought I was just an average, middle aged white guy! You learn something every day man... |

I googled my name and got some photographer's site. I also found the site i made for my astronomy club back in high school, its still up on my server too.
I tried to google a friend because I knew her birthday was sometime in august but didnt know the day. Didn't find it :( I guess its harder to find info on a minor since they don't have that many records yet. I ended up just asking her. edit: I was also shot in the head when I was 17 in high school  |
I have when I was extremely bored, lol.

hehe, I like to do this, it's fun and sometimes you really can find some interesting things. Like people's full body rubber suit fetishes, LOL.
|
I've occasionally looked up some people I used to know, but lost track of. I don't consider it at all a bad thing.
|
I like googling the names of my ancestors.
sk |
Yeah, just Googled my Ex-Girlfriends name and found out her Uncle just died. Guess I should send my condolences.
|
i did it once for some guy that was really pissing me off online, lucky for me he was the only one with his last name in new zealand.. found out where his parents worked, his ISP, his address, and scared him well enough that he quit trying to annoy me further :)
|
I've googled people before, and found their personal webpages etc. Truth is I felt like a total stalker doing it
|
yeah it's pretty interesting
|
I've Googled my name and found out I'm a police chief in Canada somewhere. Of course, that's my adopted name I'm using. Don't know my birth name.
"Are you my mother?" |
I've done it often with new people I meet and with all my old friends and family. Actually was helpful. Unemployment Services seemed to have hubby's information all wrong. Come to find out there is someone out in California with his same first, middle and last names. We let Unemployment know and hopefully things are straightened out now.
|
for my name you can find a couple old track times... and some stuff about graduating highschool... and some pictures of me from my highschools webpage...
|
I've done it a few time for the hell of it, just to see if anything would turn up.
|
Googling for some of my old aliases and e-mails can lead to some fairly embarassing stuff. I mean, I was a young, geeky, AOLer, so I practically had no shame back then.
That's not to say it's not good for some laughs, tho. Especially the ones that aren't me. For example, I'm a woodcarving expert, apparently. ;) |
Apparently there were a lot of women with my name in the 1700s and 1800s. Didn't find anything about me. :D
I've googled a couple of guys I've met online. Saw some embarassing freshman pics. heh |
hm, i've done it before and doing it now.
just trying to find old friends and such, may be having a bit of luck. oh, and because of my uncommon last name, a search for me in quotes has no results. heh. |
Yeah I Google people I meet and my professors as well. Some go as far as the search newspaper archives with Lexis-Nexis but I'm not that extreme.
|
I'm the head artist over at LucasArts and I'm in the national wrestling hall of fame. :D
|
The West of Scotland Amateur Radio Society has a competition named after me.
|
I do this regulary..... always when I meet a new person, next day I search on google for this person. But mostly there are no results for this person.
|
Yeah, found out the one girl i work with was in the miss america pagent in 2001 for the state finals. Didnt win, but thats damn cool.
|
I have looked up screen names before, but never a real name.
|
I just found out that i star in hardcore gay videos. I'm going to go drink myself into a coma now.
|
I do it all the time. Nothing wrong with it unless you accidentally get into there medical records or credit card numbers or something.
|
I share a name with a (rather crappy) screenwriter, so if I google my name all that comes up his him.
|
I've got a rare last name (rare enough that we've yet to find anyone with it who isn't related to us) and I google my name all the time. I recently found an interview I forgot I gave from when I did this weird little online web camp for kids years back.
My great uncle is a world-renowned optometrist, so I end up getting a lot of stuff about him, it's kind of interesteing to read his papers. All over my head, of course :) When I get *real bored* I'll google my friends up, but a lot of them have really common names, so it's not much fun. |
24,700 hits on my name.
|
I'm apparently
in the British Sharpie Championship (who knew?) in the Rosebud Pub Guestbook and a UK theater companies lighting and sound guy... |
Isn't this like Googlism-ing? Anyone done that?
|
Nothing interesting came up for me but for my g/f's first and last name I found the guest book of a Elementry School she must've filled out when she was just a child - she's exactly the same now except now she has better grammar skills.

I am a retail distributer of CDs & DVDs
Company: T.C.M. Warehouse Territory: Sub-Saharan & South Africa Phone number: 0027 11 312 1067 Email: andre@tcmwarehouse.com |
Everything using my first and last name comes up as me - -mostly on Geneology Research sites... My last name is a restaurant in New Market, Maryland (and I want a menu or something from that place) my last name isn't unusual , but the spelling of it is.
There's also a furniture store in Pa, 4 of them infact - I wonder if I could get a discount... and a funeral home in Wilmington Delaware... But none of them are related... |
all of the time. i am the worst internet stalker on earth, if i've known you in the past and you have a semi-unique name i will have googled you. i find it insanely fascinating -- and it's fun in that "i'm so bad but not really that bad" sort of way. i google all of my ex-boyfriends at least once a year.
/end i am a complete freak. |
I google people all the time if I want or need to know something about them. Like everything else on the net you have to verify your sources. I sometimes use google images to check and see if it's the right person. This mild idiocy helps me keep track of people fom other lives and occupations. It's just fun.
|
I could not bear to look! My name is Michael Moore...... and I am not the slovenly jerk that is getting all the press right now. To make matters even worse, I also worked on some documentary films at one time.
|
I have a fairly rare name, so it was cool to learn that a dude with my name is currently working for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.
|
I've googled for myself a couple of times, mainly mailing lists and high school stuff though. No newspaper articles, etc.
Sigh, lack of fame is a b**** |
when ever i search for my name: Devon Stacey(i'm a guy) i always get porn sites, i guess my first and last names both work as pornstar names
|
i searched one of my best friends names up one time...... got a karate site
he is a brown belt but never knew they put him up on a site! well just for fun i put my name on googles image search and got lots of dogs  |
I'm a school teacher and I've often googled my students parents names. Some interesting stuff has come up. More often than once, a criminal record has come up!
All I have is a college that shares my last name! |
I checked out my name, and while a couple were actually me, Most of them are of an actor who has been on Broadway and once guest stared on MASH. I never thought that someone would share the same name as me, but I have found 2 of them now. The actor is one, the other has a long criminal record in the state of Wisconsin.
|
Heh. I checked MY name, and appearantly I was one of the founders of internet porn.
That is SOOOO cool. |
I'm a collegiate hockey player, accountant, tuba player. Which is cool because I do play hockey (though not in school), and I play the tuba (though the only tuba player was infact me)
|
I'm a pretty busy guy myself, with my realtively common name--a senior partner at a law firm, a major league baseball player, a cartoonist, and a couple other items, one of which is actually me, and pretty high up on the list, thankyouverymuch :D
