What's in a name?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,85200,00.html

I just noticed this article about the names celebrities are hanging on their children. If you think some of the things they do in public is totally inane - then look at what they have done to their own kids! Remember the song "A Boy Named Sue"? That was pretty calm when compared to the names they are sticking on these kids.

Most celebs are dumb and self absorbed so they want their kids to stand out cause they'd die if they weren't in the spotlight themselves. The sad thing is their kids will probably not have a normal life and when they grow up they'll be completely fucked in the head. Give your fucking kids a normal name. They'll get tortured if they ever go to a public school. Some of those names are just stupid as hell.

"Speck Wildhorse"? Did Mellencamp win a large bet for that one?

This isn't a new trend... Frank Zappa named his kids "Moon Unit" and "Dweazle". I agree with sixate-they should give their kids normal names. Kids get harassed about normal names, so why give the other kids even more ammunition?

Looking at the article, some of the names they give seem fine to me... Carys, Ireland, and Lourdes are ok.. Carys actually seems like a nice name to me. I do tend to like some more unique names, or at least some different spellings for them (like Aerin, rather than Erin).

However, this:
"Beyond Jennifer and Jason, Madison and Montana: What to Name Your Baby Now, says offbeat names are just as important for today's celebrities as having a "fabulous wedding" or finding the "perfect Oscar dress.""

is just rediculous. Naming your child so the name is an 'accessory' is stupid. They're people, not the newest addition to your wardrobe.

Well none of them are named Butters so you have to give them some credit. I laugh every time I hear that name on south park, it's just so ridiculous.

For most celebs I think the kids are just accessories. I mean with their "workload" how much quality time do they get to have with the children. Some are very good parents no doubt but a celebrity life style can't be good for the kids.
/gets off soapbox.

I think they just want people to know that they can get away with anything they want, and choosing off the wall names for their poor children, it one way to do it.

As long as it's not inane drivel and is nice on the ears, it doesn't bother me any.
