calendar revision idea

lying in bed i was thinking....

why don't we count backwards for the months?

instead of having to remember "30 days hath September....," what if the first day of the month was the last day. the first day of September would be the 30th, the first day of May would be the 31st. then you know how many days you have left until rent is due, payday, or just know how many days until next month. you don't have to calculate anymore, you always know where you are at.

We don't count backwards because time goes the other way.

well in fairness, time in uncapped and goes the other way. however, the months are capped and there are a finite number of days in the month.

some people count the days down..albeit informally.

1) why do we count down the year at midnight on NYE..10, 9, 8....

2) x no. of days until xmas

3) 2 more sleeps before my birthday...

i guess its not a new concept, but what would be the advantage of counting the month in this way?

Meh. The Jewish calendar is so confusing that the Gregorian one seems simple by comparison.

Then again, I probably am a bad judge of these things, since my attitude toward deadlines tends to be "Whatevs. If it doesn't happen by then, so it'll be late. People will deal."

well the islamic calender is the same as the jewish calender, which i believe is also based on lunar months.

couple that with old islamic principles on moonsighting, mix it with the latest technological advances, and dabble in a bit of old-school mentality and you have yourself a recipe for confusion.

Please allow that that's one of my wonts? I just made what I thought might be a relevant statement of opinion. Also, please don't keep your "stupid ideas" to yourself. That won't serve the world, nor this community within it, & I think you belong here.
