I have DSL because there is only one cable company in town and they charge astronomical prices. DSL isn't quite as fast, but it's better than dial up.

Qwest. They are reliable; we rarely have outages (unlike the cable company, Comcast, we had cable for a year prior to DSL and we had outages about once a week) I really don't have any problems with them, actually. I'm pretty satisfied

We have comcast cable. It's been fairly reliable and we're pleased with the decent rate for it.

Ditto. Comcast is fine. I usually can get upwards of 1 MB/s from a good host. Average hovers around 300 KB/s.

Verizon FIOS - 15 Mbps down. I love it. We've had no problems with the service so far, but I can't really comment yet since we've only had this since December. No outages yet. I'm hopeful that this will continue to be a great thing.

We have had DSL through Cincinnati Bell which was cool. It wasn't as fast (3 Mbps down) but it certainly wasn't awful. We only had 2 outages in 3 years and both were because of construction issues in our area. The service wasn't bad either. I only had one problem with their service department, so I can't really complain much.

We had Comcast Cable before that. It sucked. We never got the 8 Mbps like they advertise. Of course they say "up to", but NEVER seeing that means to me it never happens. On top of that we had outages at least twice a month. The service was awful. They rarely got a bill correct. I hate Comcast and I will do everything in my power to make sure I never have to deal with them again.

When/if you have had to call for tech support, do you get someone in the states or outsourced?? I work with someone who has verizon dsl and they arent able to help in the 6+ times he had to call to get a reliable connection.

Fortunately, the tech support for Fios is separate and seems to be a stateside operation. The one time I had to call them I got someone who was helpful and efficient. The problem I was calling about did not concern anything terribly technical though. I'll report back if I have any serious issues and need real help.

My service does not show up on your poll.
I use wireless broadband from Xanadoo.

I am using this because I can use my service at my various
unwired workplaces.
The irony is that I get a much better connection at work than at home.
At work I often get 700Kbps, whereas at home, it varies from 160Kbps to 500Kbps with occasional peaks.

AT&T DSL 300k/s down, 45k/s up. I got a special for 12 months for $18/month. And I discovered a loophole that resets the 12 month period. We can keep that rate for another year or 2.

And the service is great. It's only disconneted 3 times since we got it.

Comcast cable. i hate it i hate the company i hate the service and i hate everything else about it i may have forgotten to mention. But... its this or dialup. When it does work its nice. But its not very stable. the customer support consists of me calling being put on hold for a hour then them saying they will send someone out in a week then they tell me its something wrong with my computer... suddenly all three computers in the house have the same problem. call them back yell at them some more get them to send out someone else who dosnt know anything about anything. he gives us a new modem and it dosnt fix the problem then they test the line and find out its a problem outside of the house in the network. the same thing i told them in the first place. They say someone will be out to fix it. A week later it starts working again and i never hear anything about any of it. I call them up yell at them some more then get credit for the time the internet was down because i refuse to pay $45 for the month that it was only working a fraction of the time. I really hate comcast. wish i had a diffrent option here.

Comcast cable.
Since I want the speed and it's the only cable game in town I have to go with them. I considered DSL but a couple years ago when I signed up I wasn't convinced DSL could compare with cable.
my edit after reading about Comcast reliability issues above: in my case it's not bad at all, I don't have a percentage of down time number, but I find Comcast Internet very reliable.
But I feel like Comcast has me over a barrel, taking advantage of customers in whatever way possible to make more money ...they are definitely a profitable business. I think consumers really need other options, no competition is bad for consumers.
It blows my mind that I pay this ungodly monthly charge for TV and internet. If I didn't have a family I don't even know if I would own a TV.

AT&T DSL - It was hell getting it set up because of a problem on AT&T's end and a problem with the wiring in the apartment. None of it was our fault.

We have good speed, comparable to cable (I forget the actual numbers) but the bf wouldn't deal with it if it was slower. And it's cheaper - also got some kind of deal for switching from cable to DSL.

optusnet cable. It also runs the telephones in my house. There customer service is pretty crap, but there cable service is rock solid - 3 or 4 outages in the last 4 years, each of which were solved really quickly. 10M down, 256K up - would rather faster up speed but it is acceptable.

No doubt. The answer to all service problems seems to be "looks like it's working from our end...must be a setting on your computer" or "I'll send a technician out...how does the end of next week sound?"

I tried Comcast (only cable joint in town) for about 2 months and then it got to be too much. The service was down...a lot. The support was horrible both on the telephone and in person. So, I switched to DSL. It's a bit slower, but it's cheaper and more reliable

Charter cable...Loath it. If another cable company was available in this area we would switch in heartbeat. Their customer service is worthless.
Had problems with them actually sending our bills. When I called to complain I was only receiving a bill every two months they told me they'd take me off that list. O_O Yeah....What list is that? Screw your customers over list?

We have Comcast. I've actually been really pleased with their customer service. We had a connection problem earlier in the year and the guy came out and fixed it, no problems. We've had them come out here three or so times since we've moved in for various things and they've been nothing but courteous and helpful, acknowledging the problem caused by Comcast, etc. I've had to deal with them a lot, having had to have cable installs done several times in the last few years.

While cable is certainly expensive, the service they provide to me is worth the money I pay.

I have Wildblue Satellite. I live in a rural area, so it was my only choice other than dialup. When I first got it I was very pleased, it being so much faster, but I've been noticing more often there are prolonged outages (sometimes a day at a time). I'd switch to something else if I had a choice.
