LL Cool J V. Palin and Fox News

Quote:
(CNN) - Rapper LL Cool J appears to be upset with Sarah Palin and Fox news for using footage of a 2008 interview in its promotion for the former Alaska governor's upcoming television special.

"Fox lifted an old interview I gave in 2008 to someone else & are misrepresenting to the public in order to promote Sarah Palins Show. WOW," the musician Tweeted on Tuesday night.

A promotion for the show - called "Real American Stories: Hosted by Sarah Palin" - features an announcer saying, "They're famous faces. Now hear the real story behind their incredible lives."

In addition to LL Cool J, country music star Toby Keith and former General Electric CEO Jack Welch are pictured.

I'm no fan of Palin or Fox News. In my opinion one is posing as a new agency and the other as, well I'm not sure what she's attempting to be this week. But famous people like LL have their images used all the time in news stories, maybe she's doing a story on him. I mean she does have a show on Fox, right? Even fake news like Fox and the Onion routinely use pictures of people, whether they have permission or not. I don't think he's has much to complain about.

Your thoughts?

I'm curious about how she separates "real" Americans from the rest of them.

The commercial makes it look like LL Cool J is a part of it. He's not?

That's a problem.

I don't know. To me it's just sounds like she going to do a profile on him. So what? Celeb's have people do profiles of them all the time.

The commercial makes it look like he's come in and participated in her little show. I think he's taking issue with that.

Having a profile done on him is a separate issue.

But you see that all the time. I see MSNBC use footage of Cheney sitting down and talking to a reporter every now and then. Pretty sure he's never, nor would he, sit down with MSNBC.

I guess it would come down to where did Fox get that video and is this "fair use."

Hell, I wouldn't want to be associated with that birdbrain'd bobblehead either. It isn't the show he's taking offense with... it's probably her.

That's part of being a public figure though. Fame comes with a price. Any whack job can report about you.

Personally I'd like to have a conversation with her just to find out how stupid she really is. According to her grandchild's father she doesn't know which way to insert the pointy end of the round into her rifle. But would I want her doing a piece on me? No, I'm sure once she found out some of my views I'd be about as likable as Hitler.

The ArtsBeat blog on the NYTimes does a better job of explaining what happened:

Quote:
Fox News said on Wednesday that it would drop an interview with LL Cool J, the rapper and “NCIS: Los Angeles” star, from the debut episode of “Real American Stories,” a new series hosted by Sarah Palin. LL Cool J, whose real name is James Todd Smith, wrote Tuesday on his Twitter account that Fox News was “misrepresenting” him in promotions for the show — using a 2008 interview with him in its advertisements.

In a statement, Fox News said:
“Real American Stories” features uplifting tales about overcoming adversity and we believe Mr. Smith’s interview fit that criteria. However, as it appears that Mr. Smith does not want to be associated with a program that could serve as an inspiration to others, we are cutting his interview from the special and wish him the best with his fledgling acting career.

LL Cool J’s other acting credits include the films “Any Given Sunday” and “Deep Blue Sea,” and the television series “In the House.”
Sounds like Fox News was pulling a typical Fox move--airing snippets of a previous interview in a misleading way to entice people to tune into the newer interview. While LL may be a public figure, he has every right to stand up and say that they edited the promos in a manner that misrepresents what he said, and that the interview featured in the promo is not the interview he gave. Admittedly, I think he should have seen this happening before he got involved with Fox News.

I love how Faux News' statement makes it sound like LL is a bad guy and is just starting out in his acting career.

Typical.

I can understand his frustration, sometimes you just don't want to be associated with something especially when you've been misrepresented. In turn he made a statement on his twitter page about it...seems pretty harmless.

Okay, good. I checked out the website and it's about "real stories" not "real Americans."

And now the bad: the cynic in me has thinking this show is Palin's way (or one of them, anyway) of solidifying her patriotic populism in her run-up to officially announcing she's running for the President of the United States.

Real American Stories

Very little in politics amazes me these days... but her making it beyond the initial announcement scares the hell outta me.

I find her scary too. Mainly because many seem to listen to her horse shit and believe it to be the gospel.

Doesn't seem to make you think they interviewed him? That's the way I read it.

Typical Faux News bull shit

Since it's April Fools Day and I'm a foolish optimist, I figure she's so dumb, or to be more accurate she's so off target (imo), that when the cream rises to the top, she'll sink. And all her followers will drown in their own bullshit...sort of biblical if you're into that context.

I find this image below to be powerful. LL Cool J vs Jay Zee: Bloods are red, Crips are blue, so this could be the new blue-red paradigm on those faux news maps during the next election:

An attention whore who quit the public service job she was elected to in order to make millions selling books, giving speeches at $100K a pop; host a reality show at $1.2M per episode, be a talking head for Faux News, and otherwise taking advantage of being the best-looking racist since Ann Coulter while saying "Country First"?

Did I miss anything?
