A Dartmouth teenager was arrested on the weekend for allegedly trying to have sex with the family cat.

The 16-year-old boy appeared in Halifax youth court Monday on charges of bestiality, causing unnecessary pain and suffering to an animal, breaching an undertaking and two counts of breaching a youth sentence.

Crown attorney Gary Holt told Judge Pam Williams he was opposed to the boy’s release.

The boy will remain in custody at the Nova Scotia Youth Facility in Waterville until Feb. 18, when he returns to court for a bail hearing.

The teenager’s identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

His mother reported him to the authorities Saturday morning after she discovered evidence that the cat had been sexually abused.

The cat was examined at the Metro Animal Emergency Clinic in Dartmouth’s Burnside Park.

"It’s a serious offence," Mr. Holt said of the allegation of bestiality. "It’s one that we don’t see very often . . . in any court."

In fact, he said it’s the first case of bestiality he has dealt with in 29 years as a prosecutor.

The boy has been charged with sex offences before. He was sentenced in December to six months of deferred custody in the community for sexual assault.

He’s also scheduled to go to trial May 3 on 10 charges, including single counts of sexual assault and committing an indecent act.

As soon as I read this, I thought "this is such a TFP thing to repost!" I remember 16 as a pretty horny time, but this is taking it to an extreme! I'm amazed he could get the cat to hold still long enough to abuse! Anybody who's had to pill a cat knows how much the little buggers can squirm and scratch!!

The fact that he was also done with "breaching an undertaking" and "breaching a youth sentence" would indicate that the boy had done something similar previously.

My guess is that this boy has been a challenge for his parents for some time. That kind of behavior doesn't arise from normal teenage hormone urges. He's seriously disturbed. A child who intentionally inflicts suffering on animals often grows up to inflict harm on other people. He needs professional help...being grounded for the weekend wont cut it.

As far as the act itself...I don't see anyway he could fit himself into a cat, but maybe the assault was with an object of some kind...the report doesn't go into detail, thankfully. It's sickening enough already.

These stories are always understandably very vague as to what act actually (allegedly) occurred.

Certainly there are more forms of sexual abuse than just penile penetration, but I'm curious what really happened.
When I was a kid living on the farm we had cats by the dozens. One of my brothers stuck a ball point pen up a cat's ass just because he thought it looked funny to see the cat walking around with a pen sticking out of its butt.
This was definitely abusing the cat, but I think it would be a stretch to call it "sexual abuse."

My Dad was not amused and gave my brother a good paddling.
