Who would you want to notify your S.O. if you died?

Today at work I had to fill out an emergency contact form. One of the sections in there was "List department members you would like to accompany a chief officer to make the notification"
My Angel doesn't know any of the current brass very well and the thought of her having to hear about my demise from one of them ..........
So I chose a couple guys on the department I want to be there if it happens, they are friends I've worked with and partied with for about ten years now and she knows them pretty well. I just don't know if I could do it for them!

Vigilante 12-23-2009 12:58 AM

Her dad. That's who I would want to tell her.

Wolf Blitzer.

My Mom

A giant head, floating in the sky with a British accent.

Xerxys 12-23-2009 08:46 AM

Ohh man, I can't even imagine any of my family members breaking the news. My mom and both sisters are all the most blunt people you have ever met in the world.

Shell 12-23-2009 09:27 AM

I don't think I'd pick my sister. She thinks everything is hilarious. When everyone was congratulating me for landing a new job at the hospital she shook my hand and said "wtg, knock'em dead"

LoganSnake 12-23-2009 10:11 AM

I don't have a SO, but if it came to that, I'd want somebody close to her to break the news.

Bill O'Rights 12-23-2009 11:46 AM

She'll figure it out on her own, after I start haunting her.

The_Jazz 12-23-2009 11:54 AM

She knows most of the guys in the office, but there are two that I'd like to break the news since she knows them well and likes them.

If we're talking outside the office, then one of her friends. She delivers bad news for a living.

Fotzlid 12-23-2009 01:19 PM

It would probably be the police.
If I was sick, she'd obviously know about it and would be there. If someone had to tell her, my demise would have been an accident or act of violence of some sort.

lostgirl 12-23-2009 01:23 PM

My parents I guess, but I have a feeling he would know first.

Willravel 12-23-2009 01:51 PM

Edward James Olmos.

My pastor/boss. She is experienced in this sort of thing, and quite good at it.

yes, yes! i'm leaving it to my spirit.

my SO would know something is wrong if we went more than a few hours without talking. its been like that for about 4 years now. I'd leave it to whoever wants to tell her. she's going to be devastated either way.

genuinegirly 12-23-2009 03:53 PM

I would want him to be the first person to find out. If that isn't possible, I think I'd prefer the first person to realize I'm dead to inform him immediately - a doctor, a nurse, a highway patrol officer... I have his name saved in my phone under "A husband" and under his name, the very first in my directory and frequently the last number called. I would hope that it would be only natural for someone to choose to inform him first.

I dislike the thought of my co-workers, my parents, his parents, or siblings finding out before he does.

you could save him under I.C.E. (In Case of Emergency) if you want to be super cautious. A lot of EMT's / Police look for this if they find your phone after an emergency.

genuinegirly 12-23-2009 04:33 PM

Thanks, SSJTWIZTA, I will do that!

I've had to call dozens of people from victims cell phones and have never looked for ICE. We just look for the pet names, "Pookie", "Puppy", "Baby", "Sweetheart" or mom, dad and Jr are good tells. If all else fails speed dial starting at #1 and going down the list until somebody answers.

Shauk 12-23-2009 04:50 PM

I don't have an S.O.

Nobody will miss me that way.

maybe you should have. might have saved you some time.

seems as if it's more popular in Europe and Australia, but has started to grow in North America. thats what wiki says anyway.

noodle 12-24-2009 05:32 AM

Some cell phones have a thing that you can fill in that shows your ICE in red and first on the list. I'm with GG... he'd better be the first one close to me to know. I'd rather him hear it straight from emergency personnel or whatnot.

It couldn't be Anderson Cooper because he would show up early and be waiting on breaking news that is about to happen

I second that motion. My dad passed in 2003, but he would be the only one I could think of, if he were still alive.

Grasshopper Green 12-27-2009 11:28 AM

If he died, I'd want a police officer/doctor/other civil servant type to notify me, assuming I wasn't there with him. I couldn't tolerate his family's BS drama at such a time.

If I die and he is not with me, I'd want my dad to tell him. I don't think my mom would be fit to deliver such news.

Salem 12-27-2009 12:11 PM

Wow.. What a hard question! I think I'd want her mom to tell her. Either her mom or our Bunny, but since he has very interesting forms of communication, I'd rather it be her mom. She has the "mom" voice, of being compassionate and understanding while freaking out all on her own. I think I'd want her to do it.
