What Type of Soap Do You Use?
This got me wondering after my stepmom said I was "archaic" for using strictly bar soap with no wash cloth. My wife uses body wash with a wash cloth. I overheard a coworker saying they...used shampoo for everything???
What's going on guys!!!

I use either Irish Spring body wash or Old Spice body wash.
I don't really care when it comes to shampoo. I just use whatever's cheapest.

I only use bar soap (Lush)... no special face soap, no shampoo (hair shaved to stubble), no washcloth.

I find bar soap really dries my skin. I use body wash with no wash cloth, from Uriage. I use shampoo from Trikare for my hair. I use conditioner for my hair from Aussie.

Ivory with Aloe bar soap. Applied directly to my body. Followed by exfoliation with an abrasive natural loofah. Then copious amounts of cream lotion.
I use shampoo for my hair. It is more expensive than bar soap, though I have used it on my body when short on soap. I use conditioner for shaving, as well as conditioning my hair.

I use Dove soap because all the others I have tried dry my skin too much. I have always used a washcloth and thought everyone did until I got married. Sometimes I use body wash from Bath and Body works with the loofah thing because I get it as gifts. Shampoo varies depending on what I think smells the best, but I have to have extra moisturizing because if not I have static head. In fact, I'll wash my hair at night and leave the conditioner in until morning and then rinse it out.
I never thought of using conditioner for shaving. I may have to try that. Does it moisturize your skin and/or gop up your razor?

Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Hemp bar soap. With a washcloth. Can't get a good enough scrub without a washcloth.
Pantene Pro-V volumizing shampoo with conditioner. I lather and rinse, but boldly refuse to repeat.

My roommate only uses shampoo--Suave. It's cheap and cuts down on the number of products a person has to use. It's not really any different than just using liquid castile soap (like Dr. Bronner's) for everything.
We use Neutrogena Rainbath gel. Since we share a shower with two roommates, leaving a bar of soap in the shower is not a great idea. It tends to get icky fast. As for shampoo--I switch off between using Paul Mitchell products and whatever salon-grade product I can pick up cheaply at the Grocery Outlet. I'm pretty good at scouting out deals on salon shampoos and conditioners. Right now I've got two enormous bottles of Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner from my salon that I picked up; they were a really good deal at $13/ea. It still costs more than Suave, sure, but I can't use Suave or many other cheap shampoos; the detergents are too irritating to my skin and make my face break out in a terrible rash, not to mention my hair frizzes out. Ugh. I will always splurge on hair products, though I always try and find the best deal for my hair products. I love a good score--like the Paul Mitchell foaming pomade that I picked up for $4 because it was on clearance ![]()

I used to make my own soap. Now I buy the "homemade" style soaps at Whole Foods. They retain the original glycerin, so they aren't as drying as conventional soaps. I also use non-SLS shampoos and facial soaps.

Lever 2000 with a washcloth. It doesn't dry out my skin too much, and it doesn't leave that slimy residue, regardless of how long it's been since the water softener was changed.

I'm allergic to almost all bar soaps except for Dove or Caress; I usually buy Dove but I'll buy Caress if it's on sale. I don't like those mesh thingies so when I use bodywash, I use a washcloth.

I use several different Bath and Body Works body washes--depending on how I want to smell. Or Dove bar soap. Or Dove body wash. I like to mix it up....even in the shower. ;-)

Hmm, I use Irish Spring with one of those mesh thingies and a brush thing for my back, and cheap shampoo. Washcloths get too dirty way too quick with me, and even when I shaved my head without the clip I still needed some shampoo to get it feeling not all grungy.

I use the store brand's equivalent of Irish Spring, or whatever body soap smells decent and is cheap. I have this brush that I use to scrub my whole body with, and though it hurts a bit, it does get all the crap out. The times that I've gone no washcloth or brush, it just doesn't "feel" as clean.
Regular cheap store-brand version of Head and Shoulders for Shampoo.

I'm allergic to everything and my face is super oily and the rest of me is super dry.
My dermatologist recommended Vanicream "soap" and it's the only thing I use on my skin now. It adjusts to whatever part of my body I'm washing and doesn't really have a scent. It's awesome. I've used Suave Daily Clarifying shampoo at least every few days for 15 years. I usually use Aussie's Cleanse and Mend shampoo and conditioner daily.

I use Kirk's Coco Castile bar soap. No washcloth, but I do keep a natural (from the sea) sponge in the shower, and a pad of the mild (white color) Scotchbrite gets occasional use on my feet. I do use a washcloth sometimes when I'm traveling, and all the hotel has is body wash and those little postage stamp size bars. It's hard to use bodywash without something to put it on.
For shampoo, it is usually Sauve or White Rain. I don't bother with conditioner, it just doesn't seem worth the bother. I shower and wash my hair nearly every day, and brush my teeth in the shower, too. ![]() Lindy |

I switch between two different body gels.
Tea-tree Oil Body Wash by Body Essence Body Essence: Body Wash Gels and Alpine Xtreme Body Wash. My uncle used to use Irish Spring bar soap when I was a kid. I thought it was something to eat, it smelled so good, so I took a bite... O.o

I use either Dove or Oil of Olay body wash with one of those mesh sponges. I have sensitive skin, and these don't dry it out and make it feel soft.
For my hair, I found an Herbal Essences shampoo that has quickly become my favorite. It's called Dangerously Straight, and it actually makes my hair straighter without the use of a flat iron. ![]()

I have HORRIBLE keratosis pilaris... so I use cetaphil for my body... sometimes Dove sensitive skin. I also don't soap up my whole body.. just the parts where bacteria love it, like armpits, crotch/ass, feet, under my breasts, behind my ears, etc. I use to flake and itch like crazy.. but now my skin feels fine.

I prefer Dove, but I often use Ivory and the white Dial. I also use stuff from Bath and Body works sometimes like Japanese cherry blossom scrub and cucumber melon body wash.
I use Pantene to wash may hair and Feria conditioner. For my face it's Aveno. Edited to add:: I also shave with conditioner, it works very well. I also use a puff instead of a washcloth. I like how they make good lather. Last edited by lostgirl; 04-02-2009 at 12:54 PM.. |

I used to use Dove bar soap, because I hated how every other bar soap left my skin feeling like rubber. I eventually got fed up with how the bars would disintegrate so quickly, making the cost of using them very high. Recently my mom and sister came to visit me and stay in my apartment. When they left, they left behind this container of Dial body wash, so I decided to buy one of those mesh sponge thingies and try it out. I feel much cleaner when I use it. Every woman who hugs me always seems to comment on how good I smell. I must be doing something right.

Joico Kpak Shampoo I used to use the dove bar soap with the exfoliating thingies in it.. once I switched to the body wash..there was no going back. |

I buy whatever bodywash is on sale at the grocery store. It's always an adventure. I don't notice any difference with my skin from one to the other.
It's pretty much the same for shampoo (don't use conditioner), but I did splurge recently and bought a $10 bottle of shampoo from Bath/Body Works because I loved the way it smelled - Eucalyptus Spearmint.
