Bacon-flavored vodka? Now you’ve heard it all.

“Everything is better with bacon. It’s one of my favorite foods,” said Don Yovicsin, the owner of Jake’s Dixie Roadhouse in Waltham. “So when one of my friends mentioned the idea of bacon and vodka, it piqued my curiosity.”

He fried a batch of Niman Ranch thick-cut applewood-smoked bacon, added the crispy bacon to a large infuser jar with Absolut vodka, then let it sit for four weeks. After the liquor was smoky, he filtered out the bacon pieces with cheesecloth, chilled the vodka to congeal the bacon fat, then removed it via coffee filter.

The remaining smoky liquor was bottled and put behind the bar, where Jake’s is serving it in a variety of cocktails.

“The clear winner has been our Bloody Mary,” said Yovicsin. “It’s too perfect with the smoky bacon flavor.”

Recipe: THE BACON BLOODY MARY

1 1/2 oz. bacon-flavored vodka
6 oz. Bloody Mary mix
Barbecue rub
1 Slim Jim
1 lime wedge

Mix the bacon-flavored vodka and Bloody Mary mix together. Rub rim of tall glass with barbecue spices. Pour mix into glass. Garnish with Slim Jim and lime wedge.

Makes 1 cocktail.

I love bacon. I eat it in sandwiches, I love it next to some scrambled eggs, I wrap it around chicken legs and barbecue them, I've wrapped it around asparagus and green beens and grilled it. Bacon just tastes damn good and can make anything it touches taste good too.

But Vodka? Ugh!

That sounds disgusting. I expect if I was completely plastered on the verge of passing out I would give it a try.

A bartender acquaintance of mine recently tried this at his establishment, which is known in town for its creative infusions. Everyone thought the bacon infusion would be gross, and thought he was strange for trying to do it. But I guess it turned out really well! He only made a small taster batch, so no one but the employees got to try it. I'm not sure I could or would, as I don't drink much hard liquor, but if he could mix up something tasty for me to try it in, I probably would.

I wouldn't ruin orange juice with Absolut let alone mix it with bacon..

But I must admit I am somewhat intrigued.

A little Bacon Vodka, a little Bacon Salt and a lime and you got yourself a nice fatty body shot :)

This sounds like a variation on the Bloody Bull, which is a bloody mary with beef bullion and related enhancements. I think I'd like this drimk if the bbq rub was to my taste, not sweet.

I've recently been using Pepperdoux hot sauce in my bloody marys; very nice deep complex flavor, not too hot...I think it would be good on bacon.

As opposed to a "white russian" or "black russian", I suppose you could combine bacon ice cream and vodka and end up with a "russian pig".

Id prolly be down for bacon vodka shots... or bacon vodka in a bloody mary... but I dont think it would work for the fruitier vodka drinks... like a screwdriver mentioned above...
