Attitude change

For the past week, I've been a one-trick pony. So here it is again:

Changes are afoot here. You'll notice that a bunch of the sticky threads are no longer stuck. We're letting things fall if they're not rules or something that's not an obvious resource.

Along with that is something that I personally will be doing. I am going to be looking for posts that ask if we've already discussed something or ones that refer the OP to the search feature. When I see someone posting something along those lines, they'll be receiving a PM from me to justify why I should reinstate their post. That's right, the first thing I'll do is delete the post, then ask for justification. If you can, I'll happily put it back up. I'm not out to censor anyone - quite the opposite, actually. I'm trying to start new conversations about old topics. There was a time when every fourth thread was about ball-shaving. Not so much anymore.

Those of you that have been around as long or longer than I know that we've covered a wide range of topics. Shakran was kind enough to recently quote me to myself on something, and I had to figure out if my opinion had changed and if so, how. We have 129,000 threads (or so) and 2.5M posts (or so). I'm willing to bet that at least some of you have changed your mind about something, including whether or not I'm an asshole. Just don't flame me when you hash that one out.

I can see how this will help to clean up the boards a bit and stimulate discussion. I am certain I do not feel the same way about many topics that have been discussed before, given that I've been around since 2003. Additionally, there are a lot of topics that I missed participating in the first time they came around, so hopefully this will take care of that too!

Regarding whether or not you're an asshole, my opinion hasn't changed.

Asshole.

In all seriousness, I agree with this largely administrative modification wholeheartedly. If nothing else, it saves me having to spend 10 minutes digging through archives because I just know I've seen that before. Regarding the rest of it, as we discussed privately. I'm not entirely sure I see or understand your angle in all of this, but I'm willing to extend you enough personal credit to assume that you know what you're doing and have the best interests of the community at heart.

I get that.
It's a trying to discourage the 'hey, we already talked this to death', kind of stance,
right? (thereby encouraging folks ) many topics/jokes/concerns, are worth repeating.

I have spent many many hours..months actually, reading old posts,
and I do remember some members commenting on their older posts,
on the order of, "yeah, wow, I really have changed/matured/ de-evolved/ or whatever,
it's kinda weird to see all that old hard-copy of myself."

I aint gonna flame ya, Jazz.

Sometimes I get a little testy. (is that a derivative of testicular?, I'm guessing?)

Smooch.

That's it exactly. Unless there's an ACTIVE thread on a topic (meaning within the last 30 days), we're going to discuss it again.

Just like you, I've been going over a whole bunch of old threads recently, some of which are incredibly entertaining. I'll be bumping those from time to time.

And squeeeb, nothing could make the dark cold lump that's technically my heart grow fonder than to discuss how to make your penis look more like your avatar. I'll unstick that thread when I get home tonight.

This makes tons of sense. If someone feels like they've discussed a topic too much already, they can just choose to stay out of the thread.
Part of the magic of posting in a forum is being part of the discussion in an active thread, not adding a post when everyone in it has already lost interest. I think this can retain a lot of new members' attention.
Good decision.

I don't think we'd have to unstick every thread.. I mean the shaving, dick size etc thread is 27 pages.. there's nothing wrong with just posting new stuff in there if you want..nothing wrong with reviving old threads

If the dick-shaving thread (or any other) stays at the top by its own merits, so be it. It's what the community wants. If we don't value it, we'll talk about it again.

Crompsin, are you disappointed that I suggested that you and Martian would use a BBQ as a sex toy? Or is it that you'll have to grow your hair out to get the Rachel look?

Don't be so suburban.

oh, whew.. I misread the original post at first. I thought you were deleting posts that were talking about topics that have been discussed 2 years prior... I was going to object to that because like you said, opinions do change. I pretty much had that in my signature for the longest time because I'd go back and read my posts from 2003 and think 'wow I've changed a lot since then."

Good. After all these years, it's almost impossible not to.
Soooo...are we to start new threads on old topics, or are we to resurect old dead threads?

Whatever floats your boat, Bill. Which means I expect to see a new thread about Alison Hannigan out of you in the very near future - or at least a reboot of the old one.
