World Nutella Day -- Tuesday, February 5th

I just found out that Tuesday, February 5th is World Nutella Day.

While I wouldn't normally make a big deal about something like this... I just thought it would be cool if we all took some time on World Nutella Day to have a heaping helping of Nutella and Cheese (or whatever you would prefer).

I miss Nancy...

How will you participate?

Plan9 01-30-2008 06:47 PM

Bust a nut, of course.

I don't know if I can eat the stuff, bro.

Baraka_Guru 01-30-2008 06:55 PM

I'm totally eating nothing but Fluff & Nutella sandwiches all day long!

BadNick 01-30-2008 08:23 PM

I never had it with cheese, so I'll try that first. Then move on from there and spread it on all varieties of fruit in the house, then on various toasted breads, crackers, I also do have some Fluff ...I'm keeping an eye on this thread for more ways to eat it.

QuasiMondo 01-30-2008 08:26 PM

And here I was, thinking it meant we could bootleg songs 'til our heart's content...

SecretMethod70 01-30-2008 08:26 PM

I'll eat Nutella while voting in the IL primary :)

Fremen 01-30-2008 10:21 PM

I've never had Nutella, but it looks good on tv. ;P

snowy 01-30-2008 10:28 PM

Wow, this is really weird, but it totally falls on the same day as Pancake Tuesday this year! Awesome! I was already planning on making my traditional "Pancake Cake"--thin eggy pancakes spread with Nutella and layered. Yum yum yum. My last sweet before Lent.

surferlove007 01-30-2008 10:31 PM

I bought the industrial sized nutella twin pack at Costco. As for the cheese..I'll pass.
However...
James did this thing for a while where if I made grits for breakfast, he'd put nutella in them. I was not amused and told him if he didn't stop, then no more grits.

shoegirl 01-31-2008 06:44 AM

I LOVE Nutella. I don't know how I will participate yet, but know that I will be celebrating with you. :D

BadNick 01-31-2008 12:56 PM

In honor of this thread, last night I made a sandwich from two slices of pound cake, spread with Nutella and Polaner strawberry spread. I recommend it. Tonight I'll make one with apricot spread.

Anybody that mentions calories or carbs or other such scare tactics in this thread should be banned for a while.

yummy75 01-31-2008 01:02 PM

I love Nutella, it's very tasty on bagels. I might have to try it with cheese although that doesn't sound yummy :-p

jewels 01-31-2008 01:09 PM

Thanks for reminding me. Been meaning to try the stuff. :p

What's not to love?

spiderman 01-31-2008 01:26 PM

mmmmmmmm - I have a friend that loves this stuff - i can't wait to try it!

yummy75 01-31-2008 03:06 PM

It's pretty good.

It leaves brown stains on the sheets if you don't get it all though... :paranoid:

BadNick 01-31-2008 07:57 PM

Never heard of this one yet, but I've been considering possible new combos so I did a batch of microwave popcorn, then put a couple tablespoons of Nutella on it, stirred, stirred, stirred, until the Nutella was somewhat evenly covering the popcorn. hmmmmmmmm goood.

troit 01-31-2008 08:15 PM

Sounds like a plan... I may even use a tablespoon and eat right from the jar. ;)

Bear Cub 01-31-2008 09:02 PM

I'm practically dry-heaving already.

Try and get some grisini. They can double as tablespoons just the same :)

spiderman 02-01-2008 05:31 AM

I think I'll cover myself with this stuff and call the hottest girl I know, who just happens to love the stuff. *Grabs the Nutella*

Nutella fondue ...melt a bunch in the double boiler, keep warm, dip in your favorite accompanyment, like fruit, cheese, breads, cakes, etc.

jewels 02-01-2008 11:05 AM

Okay, so let me get this straight.

Nutella on graham crackers.
Nutella fondue. (mmmm I'm thinkin' strawberries and/or pound cake)
Nutella and cheese sandwich?

What else? :p

Ishmal 02-01-2008 12:22 PM

I have nothing to say

kel 02-01-2008 12:56 PM

My hotel has not had nutella in two whole days! :grumpy: :grumpy: I look forward to it at breakfast on every trip I take to Europe and here I am with nothing to put on my croissant.

Philistines...

Wow, a real reason for Tuesday to be Super Tuesday!

Actually, I am waiting with baited breath for Tuesday to happen, now I can wait with Nutella flavored breath. I will celebrate my canidate's victories with Nutella and marshmellow fluff.

Good point. Mmm, Nutella Day, Pancake Tuesday, and Super Tuesday all in one.

Vlad 02-02-2008 03:50 PM

Gee thanks, now I've got a Nutella craving...

Usually, I go for the basic Nutella-filled crepes, but since I don't feel like making crepes, I might go for Nutella on this stuff:

Never saw or heard of Hawaiian sweet bread. What is it? How would you describe it?

It's basically a sort of soft white bread that's mildly sweet. While it IS a white bread, I find that it does have a bit more texture and is a little more chewy than regular Wonder-style bread. It really isn't overly sweet or anything, but just enough to be noticable. It also makes REALLY good french toast, although you've got to cut it pretty thick, as it gets kind of fragile when it's thin.

From what I've noticed, it's not all that tough to find. Grocery stores typically stock it near the deli section and not the bread section for some strange reason, and I've seen it by the deli sections in those big Wal-Marts that have grocery stores in them. Whenever I do get the stuff, I usually get a loaf like the one I linked, which is one big unsliced chunk. They also sell little square dinner rolls that taste exactly the same, as well as wheat rolls that I haven't gotten around to trying yet.

As far as how it works with Nutella, I've found that the sweetness of the nutella really works well with the sweetness of the bread (although the combination kicks the already-borderline Nutella well into "dessert" territory), and as long as you don't get a loaf that's too close to its expiration date, the softness of the bread and the sort of chewy-gumminess of the Nutella makes a really good texture.

BadNick 02-03-2008 08:40 AM

Later when I go to the supermarket I'll look for Hawaiin sweet bread. Along with beer and Nutella this can be my superbowl dessert.

spiderman 02-05-2008 10:51 AM

got my Nutella today - gonna try it for dessert tonite :P

abaya 02-05-2008 11:46 AM

How is it possible that so many Americans don't know what this is??

I'll dig it out tonight for dessert, spread on some basic bread rolls... hell, it's good with ANYTHING, really, and lasts forever in the jar.

And what a great idea, with Hawaiian sweet bread... oh god, sometimes I really miss the variety of foods available in America. Then again, Iceland nearly makes up for all that it lacks, with the dizzying array of dairy products on offer.

jewels 02-05-2008 12:03 PM

I did it! Had Nutella last night ...

Don't look

I melted a teaspoon in the microwave and drizzled it over a slice of NY cheesecake.

YUMMMMMMMM!! Even licked the spoon.

Gonna go a little less sweet this evening. :D Yes, it's like Ferrero Rocher without the chunks.

Nutella always reminds me of eating one of my childhood favorites--Dutch hagelslag, which are chocolate sprinkles (they come in all sorts of flavors now) you put on buttered toast or rolls or what have you at breakfast. They melt when put onto hot buttered toast. Yum yum. Discovering Nutella for me was like finding hagelslag in a jar, ready to go.

And yes, I too buy my Nutella in the twinpack at Costco when it's in stock.

Gotta get my fill today; tomorrow Lent starts, and that means forty days without sugar for me.
