w00t! new blood!

:D

JumpinJesus 08-23-2007 09:37 AM

If it means having to work with you, guccilvr (if that's even your real name) I'll be surprised if anyone applies.

We should make it clear that re-applications are welcome!

It took me a couple of tries to figure out the right combination of trickery and deceit.

Special consideration will be given to applicants that are still allowed within 100 yards of Alyson Hannigan, and can get a note to her.

ratbastid 08-23-2007 10:10 AM

How about... I have no real interest in being permanent staff. But the recent discussion about our attitude toward new members has me behaving in totally new ways over in the newbie's forum. I might be interested in a temporary mod stint with an eye toward furthering what I'm seeing is possible in how we relate to new members. Is that sort of application within the realm of what's being asked for here?

ubertuber 08-23-2007 10:16 AM

Yep. Absolutely. What we're offering is temp positions. Not everyone will be added permanently.

Willravel 08-23-2007 10:26 AM

I've considered applying a few times, but, as rat said, I'd be more interested in a temporary thing. Also, I'm concerned about if I could take off my moderator hat and post what I want to say. Obviously, I'd never intentionally break rules or anything (or plagiarize, learned that lesson the hard way), but if I were to be a moderator, I'd also want to set an example which meant that I'd probably tone down my posts especially in places like Politics and Paranoia. So it's really a question of whether I want to help the community out in this way and maybe give up some of my more interesting posts or not.

I can think of a few other people who I think would make excellent moderators, including but not limited to ratbastid.

warrrreagl 08-23-2007 10:36 AM

I'm not applying - I just wanted to see people stroke out when they saw my name on this thread.

filtherton 08-23-2007 10:39 AM

People masturbate when they see your name on a thread? I don't know, man. Not to burst your bubble, but the thought has never crossed my mind.

Speak for yourself  haha

shakran 08-23-2007 10:55 AM

I feel dirty.

And I haven't even said anything.

Halx 08-23-2007 10:56 AM

This IS a temporary position.

No, "stroke out" is how we fossils refer to "having a stroke." It's an ancient phrase, so your naivete is excused.

Wouldn't that be "ignorance" and not "naivete"?

Just so you know, I kinda stroked a bit. But I'm not going to reveal which kind of stroke it was.

warrrreagl 08-23-2007 11:29 AM

Doesn't matter how you meant it, I still felt a slight tingle when you posted.

It was both, admit it!

Hey any excuse to stroke works for me. :)

y'all keep throwing in the the politics statement just to keep me from applying dont you?

Elphaba 08-23-2007 02:31 PM

Nonsense, Shanifaye. You started one of the better topics in Politics. :)

aberkok 08-23-2007 02:32 PM

Yeah Shani.... you probably only think you're afraid of politics.

Reese 08-23-2007 02:51 PM

I thought about applying again but I just don't spend the time here that I used to. I'll just stick to reporting bad threads when I see them.

NoSoup 08-23-2007 04:29 PM

Alrighty, I applied - here's to hoping the third time's the charm. If it doesn't work out this time, I'm thinking perhaps you guys have a staff soup kitchen that I'm not allowed in...

not your traditional counselling like a therapist...

hmmm maybe we can do that and collect a $10 copay.

LoganSnake 08-24-2007 06:37 AM

Weird. I've never heard forum moderators offering counseling to members.

conselling can be as simple as helping someone frame a personal situation into a way that garners a good healthy helpful discussion and not a troll/flamefest.

mixedmedia 08-24-2007 07:04 AM

it's counselling as it applies to the TFP, not help in dealing with your personal problems...that's what the journals are for..

...at least, that's what I've heard...:shy:

World's King 08-24-2007 09:38 AM

Remember... You have to work with me.

Good luck.

Bill O'Rights 08-24-2007 10:37 AM

Why didn't you just lock the thread, WK? We sure as hell aren't gonna get any more applicants now.

roachboy 08-24-2007 11:01 AM

i've considered applying for this, but am unclear on the amount of time involved with it. my schedule fluctuates in intensity and so it'd be helpful to have an idea.

maybe if i worked in mod-mode, i'd find a way to overcome my loathing of capital letters so i could tell the voices apart.

anyway, i am not sure that i'd be a great mod, but if the time committment doesnt get in the way too much of other things, maybe i'll apply.

i even think i could work with wk. kinda.

World's King 08-24-2007 11:20 AM

It doesn't take much more time then you already spend here. Just a few more things to pay attention to. Like making sure I get my meds in time.

Cynthetiq 08-24-2007 11:23 AM

thank goodness we don't have to change diapers or feed him.... :P

Glory's Sun 08-24-2007 11:23 AM

substitute meds for vodka.. and I'm good to go.

SecretMethod70 08-24-2007 02:43 PM

I'd like to encourage more of our female members to apply. This is in no way any sort of indication that we have a quota on the sex of moderators - we will take on the people who we think are the best choices at this time, regardless of their sex - but it's definitely nice to have the options. So, if you're a female member and on the fence about whether or not to apply, I encourage you to do so. The worst thing that could happen is you don't get picked, which is, of course, no big deal :)
