TFP Upgrade Notes/ Bugs

Ok, currently, the only styles you canuse are 1) the default plain boring style, which is fully functional and 2) the "Gant" style which is not fuctional... dont report bugs regarding it.

Please be as descriptive as possible when listing bugs you encounter.

usrbinboy 06-03-2006 02:00 AM

Wow, it's so different. What did the upgrade actually do? Like, what new features should we see now, etc?

Super Model 06-03-2006 02:29 AM

Wow! This is radical! I like it Halx!

NoSoup 06-03-2006 02:33 AM

I think for the first time in all the years since I've started coming to the TFP, this is the first time I have ever seen it in a different style...

Frosstbyte 06-03-2006 03:28 AM

I can only hope more styles become available soon. ::cough cough:: dark cloud ::cough cough:: The whole white and blue thing is too weird for me to understand in my drunken stupor.

warrrreagl 06-03-2006 03:45 AM

My avatar has rexed.

And I have a "0% warn" which my wife will tell you (in an instant) that can't possibly be right.

snowy 06-03-2006 04:20 AM

Wow, lovin' the donate tab. Looks good to me, Halx, but yeah, can't wait for more styles.

Grasshopper Green 06-03-2006 04:33 AM

I switched to Gant...it seems functional to me if you speak French ;)

I'm sure this is a change we'll all get used to and appreciate!

ratbastid 06-03-2006 04:33 AM

"Off the Wayside" and "Links Board" posts are showing up in "New Posts". Didn't useta.

Yeah and I don't know if that's supposed to happen, but I'd rather it didn't, given a choice.

Lady Sage 06-03-2006 06:17 AM

Oooooo pretty.... light and fluffy. Me likie!

Redlemon 06-03-2006 06:28 AM

In the Journals, I went to read a "private buddy list" post of someone else's that I used to have access to. I saw the thread name listed, but when I selected it, it didn't display. While it is possible I have been banned from that thread, it is more likely that the "buddy lists" were reset. There's probably no way to fix that, but people should be aware of that.

The new board "feels" more solid, somehow, I don't know why, but I like it.

bobby 06-03-2006 06:29 AM

well,I guess change is inevitable........will look around and see what's up.

................xoxoxoo

I'm back....can't post pics in threads in titty/wayside....will take words but not pics??....no smileys either?? xoxoxoo

bobby 06-03-2006 06:53 AM

the "new" look......

I did like the dark better but this is ok.....I tryed to post a pic on the titty board(suprise-suprise!)....and it didn't work, words showed but no pic??..
....smileys don't work either??

amonkie 06-03-2006 07:59 AM

I did notice a "Buddy Journal" icon on the bottom of the Journals page. When I clicked on it, it had my general buddies for the site. I did not have any journal buddies so I was not surprised my journal buddy slots were empty - is that also the case for you?

silent_jay 06-03-2006 08:02 AM

Looks cool, new colors are a trip, not used to it being so bright, my poor high eyes.

Like "Tilted Canada" for example, land of weed and eh

ngdawg 06-03-2006 10:16 AM

While in chat, found out a couple of things through trial and error, for those having browser issues.
Older versions of IE may not allow file uploads, ie; 'attach files'. If you can, upgrade/update your IE, but an upgrade will only take if you have SP2-if you don't, you're basically screwed from getting IE7.
If you don't have it yet, get Mozilla Firefox and set it up to take TFP cookies and a password, but for those two or three who use AOL, it won't use FF, it uses IE only and no amount of coaxing will do otherwise. :(

Dilbert1234567 06-03-2006 10:33 AM

Operating System: XP SP2 (32 bit)
Internet Browser: Firefox
Version of Browser 1.5.0.4

2 for you, i cant add smillies or any other buttons when making a message i can do the codeing manualy, but just clicking does not work.

second

on the map page my text included a single quote (') when it is displayed it has an escape charactor befor it (\')

My location

CaliLivChick 06-03-2006 10:40 AM

Where's the Chat? It could go under Quick Links if you don't have room for it in the header bar...

ubertuber 06-03-2006 10:41 AM

OS 10.4.6
Firefox 1.5.0.4

I'm having trouble with the search function - both the one in the nav bar and the "search this forum". They're not returning results for threads I know exist.

Halx 06-03-2006 11:02 AM

I'm taking a break from bug fixing for a few hours... this stuff is exhausting.

CaliLivChick 06-03-2006 11:42 AM

Would stickying this thread for awhile be an option as well? Or is stickying permanent?

ratbastid 06-03-2006 12:03 PM

Thanks for your work, Hal. Glad to see it's going so well!

snowy 06-03-2006 12:05 PM

XPSP1
Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.4

jujueye 06-03-2006 12:46 PM

Thanks for the work, as always Hal. We all appreciate the work you do for us.
It is a nice change after seeing Cloudy for many years. I had to double-check the window name to see where I had ended up!

PayUp 06-03-2006 03:38 PM

I kinda like it. Does take a few minutes to get used to.

What is this warn %

Elphaba 06-03-2006 03:52 PM

On the plus side, "View First Unread" works! It was usually off by several posts under the older version, and sometimes didn't show at all.

Yeah, I know...Elph is a tad too obsessive :)

Something new. If you've been really naughty you might receive a formal warning from a mod to straighten up. The percentage tells you how close to the edge you are to being banned.

I was amazed that I was at 0%. I have had my share of yellow warnings. :suave:

GoldenOuroboros 06-03-2006 04:04 PM

*walks around dazed*
Logged on this morning and almost went blind xD

Look forward to some new styles when they're up and running :)

Toaster126 06-03-2006 05:09 PM

New Posts button returning new stuff.

The new posts button on the top bar is returning with the links from the Titty Board. It didn't do that before, and I would personally like it better if it didn't; it seems like others also have that idea.

Those that use the titty board can browse that without having to check for updates like those that are following the posts on the text part of the board.

If this was changed for a reason I would like to know why.

fresnelly 06-03-2006 05:32 PM

Consider this another vote to omit Erogenous Zone threads from the New Posts list.

Thanks for taking on all this work!

Destrox 06-03-2006 05:58 PM

Awesome work as per usual, and I dont know if its new or not but this theme "fromBasics Dark" freaking rocks.

I love its simplicity.

Fixed.. For those wondering, they did not show up before becuase I customized the script to exclude these forums.

Kadath 06-03-2006 08:01 PM

Win2K
Firefox 1.5.0.4

When I search for a member, where it should say "visit {user}'s journal" it instead says "visit xs journal"

Not a huge issue, obviously.

Also, when you click on the "Last Entry" link in a user profile, the "Close Window" button in the ensuing window doesn't respond.

Just a note - and this is not directed towards anyone specific at all - the new warning system did not transfer over old warnings. It would be far too much work to try and go through every single user to transfer the old warnings over, but we are transferring warnings over when we come across them.

ng, I'm on AOL and Firefox and they both seem to be handling the upgrade perfectly fine for me.
What was it that wasn't working?

"manage attachments'. couldn't upload pix from my pc because no option was given but it shows in Firefox. Still not there today in AOL/IE. If anyone knows how to get AOL to browse using FF (used to before I reformatted this past winter, or so I assumed), pm me with the specifics, please? I can't seem to upgrade to IE7 because I don't have SP2 installed and am trying to avoid doing so.

cj2112 06-04-2006 08:45 AM

when i went to put my location on the map I got an error message saying that there was an error with the TFP database.
I'm running XP home SP2, FF v. 1.5.0.4

To bring up what UberTuber said, when I search for a thread that I know exists nothing will come up. Will all the old threads be moving over with the upgrade?

This is because I deleted the search indexes.. I'll rebuild them soon. It takes a while.

Gatorade Frost 06-04-2006 01:28 PM

Ah, alright. Sounds good to me.

This isn't a bug or anything, but I have a question about searches.

If I searched for something like "shirts brown" (without the quotes) would it only pull things that have "shirts brown" in one phrase or would it do a search for shirts, brown, and threads with both words in them?

sbscout 06-04-2006 02:38 PM

once again, I am in awe of those participating in the changeover...
I get spazzed out when I have to change a line on a company report...
on Word...

You're awesome, Halx and Co.! Keep up the good work!

It searches based on relevancy.. so.. your second idea is more accurate.

Yep.. one of those customizations things that didn't carry over in the upgrade. I'll be adding them soon.

Glory's Sun 06-05-2006 06:41 AM

Just a couple things I noticed so far. On the 2e_forest skin, the warning percentage's are not visable. (not a big deal as I will go to a different skin soon) Also, in this same skin, when I hover over a thread that has code in it, (i.e. [img] <i>, etc.) the code shows up in the preview. It didn't do that before. Not sure if it does it in any other skins. I'll change them around and check it out in a bit.

So far I'm liking the change. Thanks for the good job man.

quadro2000 06-05-2006 07:05 AM

Journals seem to be really slow to load...I'm assuming this is because it now lists more than one entry. Obviously journalers with more entries take longer to load...but it just seems really long. Is it just me?

Yes it does load slow. I'm also guessing it's because the last entry loads all of the entries. So basically, (for now) it's like using the 'view all entries' button.

Charlatan 06-05-2006 07:11 AM

I have the same issue Q. Some load faster than others... but in general is seems slow because it is loading the whole journal rather than just the lastest posts (that's my guess).

None of the text editing tools seem to be working for me in either Quick Reply or Adcanced Reply (I don't think they were working in Journals either).

(I am using Firefox 2.0a1 - Bon Echo)

Redlemon 06-05-2006 11:06 AM

I had no problems over the weekend on my Mac, but here at work (shh!) on WinXP, TFP keeps logging me out. It could be because my web browser is Bon Echo (a.k.a. Firefox 2.0alpha)* on both platforms, but before I troubleshoot further, I just thought I'd ask and see if it is happening with anyone else.

---
* Heh, I totally missed that Charlatan just explained that in the post above me. Nevermind.

Idiot. The "Remember Me" checkoff on the login page should do the trick. RTFM.

Glory's Sun 06-05-2006 12:55 PM

hrmm

In order to change my skins I'm having to go into User CP> edit options. The scroll list on the bottom of the page isn't working for me (it was earlier when I was forced to use IE)

Now I'm on a XPsp2 machine with FF

JustJess 06-05-2006 01:04 PM

The journal buddies list is there twice for editing. And some of my journal buddies are having a hard time seeing my private-ish entries. :*

abaya 06-05-2006 01:18 PM

Someone already said this, but I'll say it again: The journals are taking forever to load!! It's nearly impossible to load Cyn's or ART's because they have so many entries... is anyone else having this problem?

yes, everyone is having this issue. There is no working 'latest entry' function (at least not that I know of) at this time. The journals will load all entries. So for now.. be patient in the journal section :D

maleficent 06-05-2006 01:20 PM

yup - it's because it's no longer loading just the last entry - it's loading the entire journal...

rockogre 06-05-2006 01:34 PM

Read all the posts to see if the answer was there, didn't see it. I'm also being warned at zero percent on all of my computers, Win 98, XP, 2000. I don't even have all of the browser versions here. Just reporting in. Figure I can reload my avatar myself.

Thanks. Appreciate all the work and time spent.

I was reading the very long thread at vbulletin.org (I'm a 3rd of the way through) and found:
Quote:

Private entries/journals that are allowed to be viewed by Journal Buddies or Users in "Who Can View" will not be updated, so they won't show up even if you are one of the Users who has permission to view unless they are edited (just click edit and save afterwards).
Also, if the last entry of a Journal is private it might show up on the journal index if you do not have permission to view it.
So, try editing the entry and we'll see if it works again.

Hey Hal(x)...one more low-priority journal anomaly:

If I add a mood to my journal entry, the icons are rexxed. Their address is listed as http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/, so I'm assuming that might be a vBulletin default.

Thanks!

I just removed the icons. I removed them from the last version too. I have no desire to add icons for every single stupid mood.

No, I take it back. This is an issue. It could be just "the way things are now", but...

On my work machine, I don't select "remember me". Previously, when I turned my computer on and logged in, TFP would remember me until I closed the browser many hours later. Now, it forgets me if I'm away for a half-hour or so. The cookie still exists, because it keeps my skin preference.

Are the time-out rules different now?

Halx 06-07-2006 01:50 PM

I don't think they are, but I've always experienced the auto-logout after 30 min of inactivity if I don't use the permanent cookies.

Anyone else notice the ctrl-i, ctrl-u and ctrl-b buttons are actually picked up by the form now, instead of being intercepted by the browser? Bolding text just got fun! heh..

Spoiler text: In all themes, the spoiler text has a white background. This allows it to stand out in most themes, but in the themes with a white background, there is no indication of the presence of spoiler text. I don't know if that can be adjusted or not.

Spoiler: here's some spoiler text<-- this should be detectable.

Automerge is nice, but I bumped into it trying to duplicate something else.

Does anyone else see errant 40-second post throttle warnings? Type in the reply box, click advanced to preview, then post. I can't duplicate it in the test forum. Didn't happen here in General, either.

Short of creating a separate tag for a different color spoiler, I'm not sure how this can really be fixed. Hopefully the "Spoiler:" in the beginning is enough to give away that there is covered text that follows.

I got all excited that that was actually a nifty spoiler. :)

Just discovered a nifty feature in searching.... if you are searching on posts based on a person's user name... once you start to type in their name (like 3 characters) you'll get a list up of every member that matches that name... (good for bad spellers like me :)

To those that care, the Journals should be running MUCH faster now. MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH faster.

Carno 06-15-2006 10:04 AM

Excellent work. It used to annoy me how sometimes it would take forever to load a journal.

I was just about to mention that. Wow. I noticed that this morning, and wanted to see it happen one more time before I said anything.

Again, wow. What was the change?

Cynthetiq 06-15-2006 10:09 AM
