certainly no lack of stupidity in the world

The idiocy of some people that are supposed to be adults is astounding. I just had to go and deal with the local police this afternoon because three 20 something idiots unloaded a paintball gun at my stepson and his friend as they were sitting in front of the 7-11. What on earth goes through the minds of people that makes them think they can be that cruel and petty.

Put one more mark in the 'I really hate bullies' column.

Jinn 04-02-2006 02:36 PM

Even geniuses can be assholes. I agree with your "hate bullies" sentiment, but not stupid people. In my experience, stupid people can be far nicer than "intelligent" people...

Sounds like these kids were just assholes, not necessarily stupid ones. :)

Sorry to hear your son was in a driveby.. :(

Manic_Skafe 04-02-2006 05:13 PM

How's your stepson? I hope there were no serious injuries if any at all. Did you find the kids or did you just fill out a police report?

There's something to be said for those that harming people that have done nothing to them as just another activity to pass the time. Hopefully they'll pull the liscense of the idiot driving the car and give them all so many fines that they'll have to work two jobs between their community service to pay them off.

...

How old is your stepson?

dksuddeth 04-02-2006 06:10 PM

The police did catch and arrest them. My 15 year old stepson is fine, he and his friend only have angry red welts all over them. The 7-11 people weren't too damn happy about having to clean up all the paint either so they are going to file charges and sue as well.

That's great news, well, the catch and arrest part anyway. Hope your stepson and his friend feel better soon :)

Some people are just silly. One of my friends woke up to "thud, thud thud." She looked at her balcony window, and it was covered in paint. Turns out the neighbours across the street decided to test how far their paintball gun could shoot.

Keep us posted. There will be next to nothing done in regard to the criminal offense.

Now CIVIL procedures could be another story...

The_Jazz 04-03-2006 05:27 AM

DK, sorry to hear about this. First the stomach flu and then your stepson gets assaulted. Last week wasn't a particularly good week for you, was it?

If you can get cooperation from 7/11 and the DA, you can probably find a way to get felony charges filed, if that's what you want. You could also file civil charges against them, but if they're 20somethings, they probably don't have much to begin with. They're probably too old to go after the parents, who would theoretically have deeper pockets, but again, I'm working on the assumption that money is the motivating factor which is most likely an erroneous assumption given what I know of your character.

Bullies do indeed suck. I hope that you can find a way to teach them a lesson.

dksuddeth 04-03-2006 06:21 AM

We're waiting to hear from the police and find out what the next step is. I want to hit them with just enough money to make it sting so they never forget the lesson. Unless, of course, the DA pursues felony charges. I don't think I could do any worse to them if that happens.

Probation, or at worst, a small amount of community service.

Shooting people with a paintball gun is dangerous in a well armed society.

Ustwo 04-03-2006 02:39 PM

How does it go, 40 is the new 30?

Well 20 is the new 14. I'll bet you a buck the punks were living at home.

pavel_lishin 04-03-2006 02:46 PM

Hey, at least your kid can now brag they've been victims of a drive-by.

Hey now, don't go generalizeing all us 20-somethings in with the few fools who make a bad name for the rest of us.

Sue the pants off the little punks, make it so they can never afford a paintball gun again, and your son's college will be paid for.

Carno 04-03-2006 05:19 PM

Yes, because ruining their lives will make it all better

The_Jazz 04-03-2006 05:56 PM

Excellent idea. Maybe while we're at it, we can brand "I'm an asshat" on their foreheads. That way everyone will know in 50 years that they were idiot youngsters. These guys most likely need a good scare and to pay some restitution. I'm sure dksuddeth et al are perfectly capable of find an amicable solution for all.

TotalMILF 04-03-2006 06:51 PM

Their punishment should be twofold. First, they must clean up all the mess they made at the 7-11. Then they should all be shot several times with a paintball gun. Yay corporal punishment!

I think it's the right thing to do to keep this kind of stupid bullying from being just a slap on the hand punishment. If I'm standing around and get shot by a paint ball gun, that's not right and whoever is just randomly doing it to people 6 years younger than them deserve a swift kick in the pants.

If they end up with felony charges, fine by me. Make an example of them.

being one of the well armed, I can say that I wouldn't have taken the time to question what type of projectiles their gun was shooting... That's probably why they were targeting youngsters...

yellowchef 04-04-2006 06:11 AM

Im all for making an example of them, not suing their pants off. Felony charges, restitution to the 7-11 for cleaning fees, fines and such... but hitting them and/or their parents is senseless.

The_Jazz 04-04-2006 07:04 AM

In my experience, the financial burden is more likely to teach a lesson than throwing them in jail for doing something stupid. They clearly didn't mean to inflict serious (meaning anything that wouldn't heal in a week or two) harm on anyone, and they pretty clearly weren't thinking. Spending 6+ month in jail (the usual minimum for felonies) could make good kids who made a mistake into hardened criminals. It's probably better if they have to pay a few thousand dollars over the next few years to their victims.

Plaid13 04-05-2006 01:44 PM

shooting a adult with those things is bad enough but aiming them at unsuspecting kids is just flat out wrong. i hope they spend some time in prison with some large horny men. a few rough nights with bubba would help them to remember not to do stupid crap like that again. would like to see them pay for those kids to at least start college as well because apparently they are not putting the money to good use anyway.

So a few weeks enduring forced buggery is a just punishment for a thoughtless prank? Welcome to the voice of reason :hmm:
Not to condone their actions, but really? You're suggesting these kids are RAPED for their crimes?
