It is completely legal, but as Kadath said, it is kind of a jerk move... although I doubt it will work ever again since it's now plastered over YouTube and was featured on David Letterman.

The snap itself is legal. You do not have to go between the center's legs for the snap. However, according to High School Football rules (I played enough of this to know), this is considered unsportsmanlike conduct....illegal.

Jerk move or not, it isn't his fault the other team didn't think about it. There was no time out called, so they should have been on their guard.
