Jeopardy three-way tie

I assume most people here have already seen this, but in case you haven't it's pretty neat.

So the returning champ is the one who is considered the winner? Is that how it works? It must have been Friday, right, because Alex said something about all new players next week?

SecretMethod70 03-20-2007 05:52 AM

yeah, it was this past friday.

That would be *incredibly* difficult to plan. Dare I say, almost impossible, without the help of the producers.

Rather, I think it's much more likely to say that the two guys tied at 8,000 decided to bet it all which is not a totally uncommon practice for someone who is trailing behind in final jeopardy, and the other guy realized that they couldn't do any more than double their score if they got it right, so he risked only as much as was necessary to guarantee that he'd get to return if he got the question correct. Add onto that an easy question, and you have an incredibly unlikely event :)

They're supposed to be extremely smart to get on that show, but, as my 15 year old pointed out-he should have assumed the other two would bet it all and wagered 2,601 not 2,600 to tie....guess he wasn't good at math.
Daoust-all three will be/were back to resume.

SecretMethod70 03-20-2007 07:45 AM

Yeah, although, I suspect he wanted to risk the least necessary to win a return. Had he bet 2,601 and gotten it wrong, and the other two bet 2,799 and gotten it right, he would have been lamenting the greediness of that extra dollar. It makes no difference to him whether the other guys return so long as he returns as well - there is no loss for being tied on jeopardy - so betting 2,600 made it one tiny, minuscule bit more likely that he would win a return visit. And, really, that's more important than the possibility of being the sole winner and $1 richer.

There is no winner, I assume, since he said they'd all be back next week and that there would be no new players.
