Im almost 99.999 sure that it is DVD -R.

You can buy a dual layered format DVD drive for a pretty decent price.

Here's one drive that I found, it will write virutally any format.

Here is the badboy I have.

It writes EVERYTHING. But alas, not dual layer.

I know for a fact that it will read dvd+r's. It is all I can use so I got kinda lucky.

I'm pretty sure which version of xbox you have (more importantly, which dvd drive is in your xbox). The newer dvd drives can read just about any dvd or cd-rw. I was unlucky enough to have a version 1.0 xbox with a thompson drive, so it took me quite a while to find out which formats mine would read. www.xbox-scene.com is a great place to look for this kind of stuff.

Insane

On the contrary, I have a 1.0 xbox with the original drive and it reads just about any dvd-r i throw at it. And it does depend on your drive, so check out the posted links.

My advice is to get a NEC 2500A. It can burn both + and - formats, and it can also be upgraded to a dual layer burner with a firmware update.

I have a thompson drive in my xbox and it has no problems reading dvd+r's. I don't know about dvd-r's, don't have that type of burner.

You can go to http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.p...&f=18&t=105495 and it'll tell you what type of dvdrom you have based on how it looks compared to the pictures.
