dont rely on bablefish. it only offers LITERAL translation, which most of the time make no sense in the language you want to translate to.

True. But I once used it to fool someone who knew I don't speak French into thinking I was someone who did.

What I usually do with Babelfish is translate its translation back into English to see if it makes any sense. If not, I'll rephrase it until it looks right in both English and the target language.

Just curious; Did it work?
Babelfished text usually looks like you just translated it by looking up each word in a dictionary.

Well, this person was fairly fluent in French and claimed to be shocked when I told them it was really me, so I guess it worked.

Also true. You have to have a passing knowledge of the target language's syntax in order to determine if the translation makes sense to a native speaker.
