Surround Sound

I need a little help setting up a 5.1 system to my new Sound Blaster Audigy LS.

What I have now is the Harman Kardon 2.1 setup that came with my computer. I also have 2 speakers from my home theater that are not being used. I want to use a combination of these speakers but am unsure if that is possible.

I'm hoping I won't have to buy new speakers but if I must, I must.

Er... you MIGHT be able to get it to work. Well, get a 4.1 system to work. 5.1 means 5 speakers. 4.1 means 4. Not sure what the .1 means, but it's not relevant.

So anyway, what you'll want to try is having your 2 regular computer speakers attached to the regular audio jack (green), then hook the two new speakers up to the black (rear) audio jack.

Then, when they're hooked in, look for your sound software that came with the card... I think it's Creative Audio HQ. Somewhere in there should be a setting to configure it for 4 speakers instead of two.

I can't guarantee this will work, but I think it will. Good luck.

the .1 is just an abbreviation for the subwoofer i guess.

Yeah, .1 means subwoofer. I don't think what you are trying will work, but good luck. Please let us know. If it doesn't work, I highly reccommend Creative's Inspire T5400 5.1 speakers. I got the set for $70 and they sound great for movies, music and games. You can get even better speakers, but not for that price, in my opinion.

You'd be best off going with buying a new system.

You could probably manage to make your current system into a 5.1 but you'd really have to know what you're doing with the cables and whatnot.

You can get some pretty inexpensive computer systems with built in amps and whatnot. I got mine for something like $50 (it was an open box price). It's a Creative Labs model, VERY nice.

The system is awesome for personal use. However, if you want to watch a movie with someone else, a computer system isn't going to be the greatest (not bad, but not the greatest).
