bootable thumb drive

does anyone know how to make a bootable thumb drive? i need it to go into dos-mode. i went to bootdisk.com and downloaded the 98se boot file. it writes the boot files to the floppy drive. so i tried copying all the files from the floppy to the thumb drive. i tried to boot from the thumb drive but it didnt work. i googled it up to see if anyone knew how but no answers. so maybe some of you people know how.. thanks!

well is usb one of the options for booting under bios? i havent heard of a motherboard that can do that. but i might be out of touch.

you can get a floppy that lets you boot from a usb drive, but that might defeat the purpose.

you know what looking at the options in my bios it said "hard-disk drive sequence" 1. system BIOS boot devices 2. USB device +/- to change
i guess it would only work if i hard a USB hard-disk? i guess thats why when i tried the thumb drive it would say disk error. damn!

The computer really doesn't care if it's a thumb drive or a USB HD. As far as it's concerned it's still a USB mass storage device.

Did you copy all files, including the hidden ones? The bootdisk won't work otherwise.

if the motherboard bios suports usb in the boot device all you have to do is format the thumb-drive as a bootable drive, done it here, my company has bought some hp's that have no floppy, a thumb drive is easy to carry around, made mine bootable and put some apps and drivers on it, works great.

Yeah, it should work just fine. Maybe try one of the boot disk makers, only point it to the USB drive intead of the floppy?

Presuming your BIOS supports USB boot, all you need is THIS.
