Cramps

I have this annoying cramp in my feet from time to time. I've had the cramps since I was about 10 I think. It used to be just the feet and calves but then I started getting it in my neck, arms and throat. Not very pleasent I tell you. But the cramps in my feet and calves are the worst. The attacks are very painful and last a long time.

Sometimes they appear at intervals of months and sometimes I get cramps in my feet all day long. what's up with that?! I asked my father about it and he just said that everybody got cramps sometimes and that I shouldn't read too much into it. But I seriously doubt that anyone get such nasty cramps as I do and that frequently.

So what could be causing it? Are there any pills for it?

I've heard they *can* be caused by mineral deficiencies?
Particularly calcium and magnesium.

What do you mean by "in your feet"? I used to have an intermittent pain, which would come on quite suddenly. It would stretch from between my big toe and second toe, back along the arch of the foot, to about 2/3rds of the way along my foot. Always my right foot.

Turns out I'd been wearing shoes that were too small for me. I replaced them all. My feet are much happier.

I don't think that's the case here. I eat a vitamin pill every day and have a healthy diet because of my workout so I should be fine regards to vitamin deficiencies....

I forgot to mention that I'm also capable of provoking the cramps in my calves and feet. Especially during the night when I'm stretching...

how many people do you know who's capable of that?!

don't think it has anything to do with arthritis? Just a thought.
I would be taking more Iron and Vit. C or simply take a woman's multi-vitamin. Also, aromatherapy works very well. I own my own incense & oils business, focusing on aromatherapy.
Jasmine, Juniper, Sage, Lemon Grass, Orange, Peppermint, and Pine can all help muscle cramps & joint pain.

I have gotten them when I was dehydrated. That's another possibility. I sometimes can get rid of them within an hour by drinking as much water as I can reasonably. Just constantly sipping seems to help.

Also B6, calcium. Have both seemed to help them. Though you take a suppliment. You could check the RDA numbers on those particular suppliments. Make sure it's enough.

I constantly "caused" the cramps in my feet and legs while I was pregnant by stretching. Doc said to up my suppliments and drink lots of water. It could be a combination of those too.

ok you're the third to mention lack of vitamins so maybe I should look into that.

Me.

After I broke my leg, I would get night time cramps in my calves all the time. It sounds like ours are kind of different because when I stand up they go away. Mostly I get them when I am stretching in my sleep.

For me, it is stress. If I am major stressed out, I will cramp up anywhere from my jaw to my legs.

no. Mine go away when ever i stand up as well...

Hmmm stress? I'm not a very stressed person so I don't think that's the reason but more likely a vitamin deficiencies. Or...I hope so because that's more easy to take care of than stress!

More potassium in your diet might help. (eat more bananas). Low potassium can be cause of muscle cramps. Basically your muscles wont be able to repolarize (relax or "decontract") as well as they need to without enough potassium.

Also try increasing the amount of water you drink a day (unless you already drink a healthy amount).

I can do this too

It's most likely from low potassium. But I hate bananas, I'd rather have a cramp every now and again.

While I was in the hospital after a car wreck I had blood work done and they found that I had a very low amount of potassium in me. So they gave me a potassium IV. Holy fucking hell that was worse than the pain of breaking my arm and leg, cutting my eye and having to have the stitches and stapels removed COMBINED! it was like having lava poured into my viens. Ouch.

Low levels of those I believe will cause cramps.
So drink your milk with a glass of water and a bowl of spinach.

You sould see your doctor and get a blood test. If it has to do with the first 3 it may cause more troubles later.
