protect my likeness

I don't know if this is the right forum to put this in but it is a how to question. Here is my problem. Recently somone signed my name to a petition that I want no part of. I received an email stating that i had signed this petition. I responded to the contact stating that there was some mistake and that I wanted to be removed from their list. I have gone back and forth with this person and have basically been told that my name was staying on their list. Is this legal? How do i protect myself? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

legally they cannot keep your name on a petition if you did not sign it, especially if it is something that will be kept on record. If it is really important, call a lawyer for a consultation

Sue! well, not really, threaten to sue, that should get them to take you a little bit more seriously... and if it comes down to it, you can actually sue, I am sure there are lawyers out there who could make a fine case out of this!

$50 - $100 for a "lawyer's letter" usually works wonders. Prices may vary.

Also threaten to go to the persons/organizations against whom the petition is aimed and tell them the petition is fraudulent. Threaten to go to the media also.

If someone is raising a petition and it is shown to be fraudulent, they lose ALL legitimacy.
