Good Eats

Just did a search and saw that this cooking show had only been mentioned in passing. If you've got food network, check it out sometime, it breaks most of the rules for cooking shows, which is so very nice. While I haven't cooked all of the recipe's he's done, I can say that every one that I've tried is the best version of that food I've ever had. Changed the way I think about steak, cookies, and tonight, I cooked a meatloaf that I actualy liked, so I think hell must of frozen over.

For anyone interested, here's a link to a recipe index, as the foodtv search engine is awful.

The food network is my "default" channel and Good Eats is my favorite show. AB not only tells you how/what, he tells you why. For example, a round casserole dish is best for mac and cheese because it prevents "dry corners"; pan frying chicken is better than deep frying because it lets moisture escape, allowing the skin (and batter) to adhere to the bird.

I must admit, however, that I once tried his complicated recipe for BBQ ribs and found them almost inedibly salty.

Alton Brown rocks... I love his show. His recipe for a Grilled Cheese sandwich was an eye opener.

I was going to try his ribs recipe this weekend... I'll cut down on the salt... thanks

I tried his rib recipe and didn't like it. Some of my friends did, though. Aside from the recipe, I took away the following knowledge from that episode...

1. Use a rub
2. Wrap in foil
3. Use the oven on low heat for a long time
4. Put them on the grill just long enough to baste with sauce

I did the onion soup and loved it. I want to try the ribs next week. The show on beer makes me want to brew my own beer again.

A great show, funny and informative. I still laugh when I remember the puppet show he staged to explain why you don't put the salt in too early when you're cooking oatmeal. And the jello show with the jello brain recipe -- Lordy!

I love this show!

Alton's background in film (if I'm not mistaken) really shines in his presentation. He's comfortable on camera, and really makes it entertaining.

Actually, I think I'll do a little search on Kazaa for his stuff tonight after work!

This is the only cooking show I can sit through. It combines my love of science, humor, and food with my hatred of cooking. My fiancee has the DVD's and they are...episodes from the show. So if you like the show then they are worth owning.

What's with AB and the woman who's an expert on all the utensils and gadgets ("W"?) Why do they dislike each other so? I mean I know it's just a show, but what's the story?

Hi, I'm Jonsgirl and I'm a Good Eats-aholic.
Seriously, I can't enjoy eating other kinds of steak now. His recipe is the VERY best!
