Captain Beefheart

Has anyone else heard of this guy?
i think he was friends with Frank Zappa. Anyways, i downloaded his album Trout Mask Replica last week, and its great. Although reallly spun out, experimental and kinda weird. Its sorta fusion jazz stuff. just great tho.

anyway i just had his little intro to one of his songs in my head all day, so i thought i'd post it here, to see if anyone knew what iot meant. Its also a bit of a theme throughout the album, although it takes a long time to absorb, which is a good sign.

anyways here it is
"a squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is fast and bulbous, got me?"

with all its eccentricity, i think its gonna be a while before i remotely understand anything about it...but musically its very good as well, tho beefheart isn't much of a singer, its an aquired taste

also just to make sure this thread isn't too worthless, theres this cool site rateyourmusic.com and its a pretty good site for rating music yourself but also getting other review and referals from other people. good shit. ok i'll leave it there.

Also, i will buy trout mask replica, cause i do like it. Its just a matter of fully understanding it...

The only thing I remember about Captain Beefheart is that a wacky DJ near my hometown played "Click Clack" at least twice a day (probably more) back in 1972 and it drove me nuts.

I might have appreciated his stuff better if it hadn't been for that.

I'm pretty sure that, as well as much of the other lyrics on the album, are simply purposely non-sensical with out any meaning what-so-ever.

not that there's anything wrong with that!

I was checking it out the other day, the off rhythym stuff kind of put me off. Maybe I will give it another try...
I listened to "Her Eyes Are A Blue Million Eyes" and sort of liked it (not sure what album it's from)

COVER MY ENTIRE BODICE WITH AVON COLANDA!!! MAKE ME BUY THE FLOSSA!!!

I just love how nonsensical his music is. It makes me quite the happy person indeed.

Beefheart is one of my favorites, musically anyway. Lyrically he kind of drives me up the wall sometimes (we get it, you're zany. You know?). But that music is pretty special. Bears and requires repeated listens, for sure.

cool. I got safe as milk today and it's extremely good. Its sooo much more accesible than Trout mask, even my brother liked bits of it and he's quite narrow-minded when it comes to music.

Beefheart contiunes to impress, i gotta get more of his stuff.
