A pilot was on final approach at an airport where he'd never landed before.

He was amazed at how short the runway to which he'd been directed was and asked the co-pilot for maximum flaps and steepened his approach angle to the maximum. As he got closer he broke out into a cold sweat as alarms went off that he was close to exceeding the allowable angle of descent.

As the plane hit the runway, he jammed on the brakes with both feet and threw the thrust-reversers into max. Finally, the plane skidded to a halt a couple of feet short of the end of the runway.

He turned to his co-pilot and said, "I can't believe ANYONE would ever design a runway this short!!!"

The co-pilot looked at him and replied, "You're right... but Lord! Isn't it wide??"
