Anyone go and see this one? We went yesterday and I was very pleasantly surprised at how well they did with the film. I loved the books and usually get annoyed at the changes to the storyline they tend to make in movies but felt they stayed pretty true to the book here.

    Would recommend it to anyone.

I really enjoyed the movie, but I haven't seen the Swedish one, nor have I read the book(s). Perhaps my opinion of it will change a bit when I do those things, but as a standalone film I absolutely loved it.

I've read the books, and whilst they tell a great story, they're not actually "nice". My wife sorta wants to see the film (without knowing just how grim the book is) and I'm unsure if it's a date movie...

    I really disliked the books.

And I LOVE Scandinavian crime fiction normally (Martin Beck,Wallander - father and daughter, Erlendur...)

They werent badly written, I just found the two heroes completely unsympathetic and unlikeable (a smug prick and a borderline sociopath in my opinion)

I know they are incredibly popular and I must be missing something, but just couldnt get into them. I dont have to like a character to like a book normally, but with detective fiction you kind of have to at least respect or admire the detective.

No interest for me so far in either the books or films based on them. I did read the book jacket for this Hunger Games book and it did catch my interest, might try to look at that one at some point.

People seem to have something of mixed feelings especially about the second and third movies which, I think most people will agree, are somewhat less exciting than the first, but they're absolutely worth watch just for Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyqvist. They have great chemistry (even though they're not necessarily on screen together as much as you'd expect), and they're both great actors. I haven't seen the US version yet, but I'll be very interested to see how Mara compares to Rapace. It's hard to imagine anyone but Rapace as Lisbeth, for me.

I saw the movie a few days ago, didn't read the book, didn't see the Swedish version. A good movie for adults, the plot and characters are engrossing. Rooney Mara, the actress who played the heroin, did an excellent job. I am looking forward to seeing the next two installments in the series and the Swedish versions.

I see it more as a character study than a detective story. Every character was flawed in one way or another and as the movie unfolded understanding the motivations of the characters was most involving compared to the investigation plot. The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo ends in a manner that almost forces me to want to continue on the journey with Lisbeth, the heroin. She is pretty complex and seems conflicted on many different levels.

My fiancée made me watch this movie a few months ago.

Wasn't that good in my opinion, but I see where liberalists get off on it.

A big hooray to the emancipated punk chick that used the sexual abuse against the perpetrator. So very emancipated.

Then again, I was happy to see that guy getting assraped.

I saw the Swedish version this weekend, it is better than the American version. The main plot is the same but there are some important plot differences making the Swedish version flow a bit better and they did a better job clarifying what motivated some of the characters. Makes me wonder which was truer to the book.

The Swedish versions are all 3 excellent, though the last one is a bit slow-paced. The acting is superb and the films are gritty and graphic. The locations, sets, and character actors all make the entire series consistent and engaging.

Loved the books. Looking forward to the movie. Been hearing a lot about the Swedish version of the movie so I'll check them out too.

I loved how raw the movie was but as said above, I've heard the swedish version is the way to go.

I saw the first film of the swedish series. It was ok. Didn't quite match the word of mouth.

I loved the books. I saw the us version of the movie a few weeks ago. Never saw the Swedish one (even though that was the version I wanted to see). However I didn't like the movie as much as the book. I don't know. I felt the movie was kind of lacking. I feel the movie is more hype then anything. Though it was still fun to see the book come to life.

Read the books last year and enjoyed them and saw the first Swedish movie this weekend. Thought it was ok. It was dubbed into English though which made it look a bit weird.

Seen the Swedish one and liked it alot. Not to keen on seeing the Am version.
Am I weird for thinking Noomi Rapace is hot?

According to onodrim, who has read the books, the American version was significantly truer to the book, with the exception of the end.

I enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd Swedish movies much less than the 1st, but based on my discussions with onodrim it sounds like that has more to do with the source material than the movies themselves.
