    My George Foreman grill is like 25 years old at this point and still going strong. It's pretty much relegated to grilled cheese duty at this point now that I have a family; it's too small to do anything for the whole house. But it does make a damned fine grilled cheese.

    I have a modest knife collection, which includes a few kitchen knives. I've always been intrigued by that design style, & I'm sure one day I'll get one, probably in a mixed lot of kitchen knives.

    I would love to hear your thoughts on knives, esp kitchen knives. Our main knife set is Zwilling Henckels 4 Star, but I really like the more ergonomic 5 Star; we only have a few of them.

    Henckels are great knives and will last you a lifetime.
    There are arguments between chefs about the different generations, I'm pretty sure having a lot to do with what they came up using.
    I haven't had a chance to use the 5 Star so I can't say.

    The guy at the knife store near me tries to sell me Wusthof (I have a couple), but I tell him they would be a lateral move from my Henckels because basically they're both very good knives with little difference between them. The ones Made in Germany, that is.

    I also have a few Mark's Ironwood knives, which are also sold under the manufacturer's name, Mundial. They're made in Brasil (the proper Potugese spelling ;) :rolleyes:). The only tiny nitpick I have is they have the classic style handle. Without knowing anything about the steel Mundial uses, I'd put them up their with my Henckels :eek:.

    I should mention the most the "a few of" knives we own came in mixed lots of knives.

    Also I don't sharpen them using
    a sharpening steel :mad:.
    I maintain the edge using a Lansky C-Sharp.

    I have a huge damn collection. It's kind of stupid. And that is after giving away a bunch of it so I could empty out my drawers.
    They range from a Enso Hand-Forged Aogami Super 6.7" Santoku with Saya to the set of Henckels I had for 20 years as a chef.
    I also have ceramic knives, cheapo paring knives, two sets of steak knives cheap and expensive, a combination Bowie knife and small sword that you could easily cut someone's head off with.
    And a shitload of other machetes, cleavers, choppers, switchblades, pocket knives, etc. etc.

    That sounds a lot like my collection, except more hunting/bushcraft & folders than kitchen.

    My biggest kitchen knife is a vintage Dexter 11914, with a 14" blade it's more machete than knife. Normal size range vintage Dexter kitchen knives are fairly common, the 14" is (sort of) rare.

    I have a few hatchets, & a couple of axes. And I used to collect chainsaws (really stupid), still have them.

    I highly recommend Battling Blades if you want to add a custom made sword or big blade to your collection.
    They also make wonderful gifts for the ones you love.

    That Bowie appears to incorporate several different styles.

    One of the very few firearms channels on YouTube that I follow (many hosts can NOT keep their hard right/maga politics to themselves) is hosted by Michael Tinker. Apparently he earned a very good reputation as a sword maker, but now sticks to knives. I can't afford his now collectible swords or his current knives.

    One of the strangest knives I have is made about 20 miles NW of Houston. I think it's called The Beast, & I'm not sure its main use would be.

    Edit: The Hoffner Beast. Check out the spine thickness, if the blade got dull you could use the knife to bludgeon someone.

    Like you I would have no practical use for it.
    Still, I don't have a practical use for the bowie sword either, just bought one for my sweetheart then decided I wanted one as well.

    I hadn't heard of his passing...and I live in Houston!? Sad news.

    My understanding is Foreman had a very unusual contract regarding his grill, one that oddly paid him very well.

    I remember reading a brief interview with him ages ago where he talked about how younger people knew him as the grill guy rather than a former heavyweight champion.

    It's a solid product, he did good by it. The plastic on mine is yellowing but apart from that it works as well as the day I got it. Granted there's not much to the thing, a couple of heating elements and a thermostat, but even so it's held up remarkably for being as old as it is.

    Sometimes a simple product that doesn't appear especially well made will surprise you.

    We retired a very old West Bend electric wok that was still working (the heating element started becoming very easy to see through the bottom of the wok).
