I remember long ago as a teen waiting for the bus to go to work in that dirty slush.
It actually feels colder than the snow. Ugh.

The most bone chilling days are when it is in the low 30s and raining.
It's much more comfortable to be outside when it is 25F and snowing.

It's about 27F on my front porch, & we've had about two inches of snow, which starting to slow down. Which fell on a thin layer of frozen rain that wasn't sleet & wasn't snow (I forgot the name for it). The snow is now slowing down, supposed to be done around 12N.

Things will start improving on Thursday, but we can't really rest easy until Friday.

    Nice.
Freezing rain falls as a liquid then freezes on contact. That sounds like what you are describing.
Stay safe and enjoy the taste of winter.
It was -3 when we woke up, up to +5 now and I just got back from a beautiful ski with the doggo.

Last night, before the snow, I could hear a feint 'tinking' sound as the light frozen rain(?) hit the tree leaves & the cars.

This the third time in Houston, over 60 years, I've seen snow this "heavy."

-11F here. Anything in negative double digits and the air becomes painful to the touch.

    Lesson learned:

Fresh/fairly fresh snow is relatively light (to a certain point) & therefore fairly easy to clean off a vehicle. As long as you do so before starting said vehicle and letting it get warm, which turn the 'light' snow into a slushy mess.

    Lesson learned.

Edit: The "meteorologists" on our local news kept pushing back our Overnight Low Above Freezing date, Tue then Wed then Thu; I think we're finally in the clear.

One strange thing is this morning the weather experts said our overnight low was 31F. At 5:20am the thermometer on my front porch read 37F, while the thermometer in my wife's car showed 38F.

    *****
It seems the power grid in Texas handled the extended cold snap pretty well (if you choose to believe the info from the companies, ERCOT, in charge of providing the energy). Was it luck, or did ERCOT actually make enough improvements? My guess is Luck 75%, ERCOT 25%.

Just got in from skating on the canal. We are house-sitting within a few blocks, so we skate everyday. It's only been 20 years since Seamaiden last skated, so she's picked it right up again. Me, otoh, have'nt skated for at least 50 years so it's been a learing curve, for sure. But each day, we get a little better!

I’m pretty okay, though I might end up posting here again to vent about the state of the world.

    How have you been?

    That's fantastic!
My wife and I visited Ottawa in the winter time 20 or so years ago.
We had a great time there and the highlight was several days of skating on the canal.
    Fond memories of beaver tails......:)
