I saw one guy with boot chains. He was doing good with those.

But they clost 2x the price of used Adidas cleats and they don't look as sleek and sporty

    Texas tornado track | khou.com

The tornado was only a few miles south of us.

If you're interested, click the link, & check the graphic with the arrow showing the path of the hurricane (it doesn't show the complete path). We're near Hobby.

Edit: The damage is extensive. Thankfully, and amazingly, no deaths have been reported.

Super cold for the PNW. No precip for a few days.
    Hope to escape snow.

Our nasty weather has been pushed back a day, the below freezing temps are now forecast for Mon night.

Did the greedy assholes who are ERCOT actually make the necessary improvements to the Texas grid? A warning system to tell us when usage is threatening to overwhelm output isn't the type of improvement I'm talking about.

I just got an email from puget sound energy (gas) saying thanks reducing usage.

Ted Cruz booked a flight yet ?
Maybe someone can sell him a seat next to one of those windows

Cancun Cruz learned his lesson. This time he slipped out of state two days ago with Ken Paxton.

Yes, before the last killer freeze our Attorney General, the person who is supposed to protect Texas consumers, left the state a couple of days before the freeze hit. We never heard a peep from him, or Abbott, about going after ERCOT; in fact he defended ERCOT as an official state agency (they're not).

Hurricane Beryl took a (an unexpected?) turn NE. The eye is/was near Needville, meaning Houston is getting the dirty side.

We don't have power, but should be OK for a couple of days with flashlights, candles, food, water, etc. Our temps should manageable...until the storm passes and the temps go back up with extra humidity.

I hope Gov. Greg Abbott is enjoying his stay wherever the hell he is.

No power yet, we're making do.

Water on my side of the bedroom; we can't wet vac with no power.

We'll need to dump some, most, of the food from our fridge. Depending on when we get power back some freezer items might?? be OK.

We're also trying to keep a malnourished kitten alive (more on this later).

The charging outlet in my wife's 2016 Rav 4 sucks. The cigarette lighter in my 2004 Highlander works a little faster and that's with using an old school adapter. You'd be surprised by how much you rely on electronics, outside of the obvious cell phone useage.

    Hang in there man.
The hurricane remnant has transported some ungodly air with it all the way to upstate NY.
Like dew point over 70F stuff.
It's grotesque and it is rare to see temps and humidity like that up here so we don't have A/C.
I don't know how you live like this down south, even with air conditioned indoor spaces.

We're currently sitting in the '04 Highlander running with the ac on, the radio playing classic rock, my tablet & the one power pack/battery worth using plugged in.

I found some ice today at the 4th place I tried, about 13 miles from home. Two bag limit, & of course my wife wasn't with me :(.

We got our power back at 8:50am, inside temp 82.9.
An hour & 25 minutes later, 10:15am inside temp is 76.1.

We have long day ahead of us...provided we keep power.

I have no idea how accurate this is.

    Texas Power Outages Map

I can't find the map that shows Houston specifically. I think CenterPoint energy changed how the map is viewed.

It cooled down to 96 today. Getting into my car is not unlike sticking my head into my oven to check on my cupcakes. Except there are are no cupcakes in my car. Just hot air.
Weekends are sweltering, as I'm taking turns helping my FIL, who has no A/C. He is old, loves the heat, and hates car rides.

We still have pocket areas without power, which is to be expected (yes, that totally sucks when you happen to be in one of those pockets).

The thing is many areas aren't even scheduled for assessment, which is the step before scheduling repairs.

Most rational people will agree there's not much you can do about damage in a major hurricane, say a Cat 4. Most rational people would question how a Centerpoint, a power company in Texas near the Gulf of Mexico coast, could be so ill prepared for a relatively weak Cat 1 hurricane.

Gov. Greg "I am not stupid!" Abbott is making noise about holding Centerpoint Energy accountable. He's just farting. Our GOP leaders are bought & paid for by the utilities companies. After the freeze Ercot, the utilities mafia in Texas, was declared an official government agency so it/they couldn't be sued. I don't think TX AG Ken Paxton has ever done anything for Texas utilities consumers.

Lots of rain. Under a tornado watch.

I'm prepping as if the electricity will go out. (but I also know how to sleep in my car well, or use it to go to other locations with power)
In this kind of mess, it's all about improvisation. (although I'm a bit disoriented since I just moved in this place last week, don't have everything "at-hand" or practiced)

And thankfully, I get PTO again. :) (and all the big meetings are done for the week)

There are so many things you can do, and so many things you need.

One thing we learned during our Beryl power outage is our small charging blocks were totally insufficient. We've ordered one which is supposed to provide 10 charges for a smart phone, & eight for a laptop. I'm going to experiment with it to see if getting a second one will work, or do I need to go up in power. We'll end up with two, regardless.

To be clear, a powerful charging block or two is not at the top of the prep list.

Upstate NY and we are under the same tropical weather.
It’s been pouring non-stop all day. Flash flooding beginning in neighboring towns.

It's hot and dry in Oregon. (75 degrees is considered cool.) Right now, Oregon and Washington are blanketed with forest fires.

The weather here is oddly sunny today. I do not much like the weather right now and look forward to dimmer days.
