OK, honestly I'm not surprised. I haven't given the Stones any real thought in over 20 years. The DVD set of Stones concerts, Four Flicks, I have (paid about $3.00) backup my thought live they're seriously meh.

I've watched this a couple times now...these boys wake up thinking about pushing people's buttons HARD.
Don't watch this if your sensitive to egregious transgressive themed music/art/ whatever. These guys cross lines and stomp all over the wrong side laughing their asses off.
My reaction is, lol, not bad deathcore metal....but nowadays I know there's some folks who's brains are squishy enough to take it more seriously, and do bad things, or on the other hand, flip the fuck out in outrage.

Late to the party, but I've been listening to Paul Kelly's A TO Z RECORDINGS; Kelly played four shows in a row, and over the course of those nights, played songs from his catalog in alphabetical order. Mostly acoustic with just his guitar (but sometimes with another player or two), this highlights the brilliance of the songwriting. This isn't an album that I put on to play all the way through, as the sameness of the arrangements works better for me in small doses--three or four songs at a time.

If you have Spotify or some other service and want to see if this is for you, I'd suggest "If I Could Start Today Again" or "Everything's Turning To White."

I'm ashamed to say I've never heard of him, but it might be his songs are well-known but he isn't.

Trivia about the studio version: The single was about a minute longer than the album cut. It might have had something to do with the running time on the LP, I don't know. Usually, if one is edited, it's the single to make it more palatable for airplay.

EDIT: I just noticed this video says it was from a 1977 concert; LOW BUDGET came out in 1979.

Re The Kinks A Gallon of Gas, I think the confusion over the dates is addressed either in the comments or the vid description. Basically '77 is wrong.

It's possible the song was part of their playlist before they released an official studio recording. That might not be true because the lyrics are Americanized, IIRC at the time Brits paid for "petrol" by the "litre."

The single being a minute longer might have something to do with disco. I've seen extended dance mixes from bands that I wouldn't necessarily associate with disco. Their song (I Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman, also on the Low Budget album, was supposedly done to satisfy the record label wanting a danceable (disco) song. Truth or rumor, I don't know.

 

The Courettes are for folks who like Low-Fi, Garage band at 2:00 AM, proto-punk, ass kicking, fuzz guitar, The Cramps reincarnated, no fucks given rock and roll.
