What/Who are you boycotting and why?

Are you actively boycotting a business or individual? Why? What's the story of why you no longer are customers or fans?

Some people are boycotting Chick-fil-a and Hobby Lobby because of their religious beliefs. Others won't watch a George Clooney movie based on his politics. I'm sure people now won't watch a Louis CK or Kevin Spacey movie because of the sexual harassment stuff.

I'm not a person who actively boycotts any businesses at this time. I am also not boycotting any thespians either.

There are plenty of places I won't shop or entertainers that I won't see. I wouldn't call any of them a boycott.

I serviced Walmart cash registers for a decade or so. They treated me like shit and I saw team meetings where the managers treated their employees even worse. I haven't been back since.

I saw Ted Nugent and enjoyed it before he went on his 2nd amendment tirade. I don't pay money to listen to political bullshit. Ted can't seem to stfu and play. The same is true of Jackson Browne. While I generally agree with Jackson politically, that isn't why I go to a concert.

I don't shop at Hobby Lobby. I don't donate to the Salvation Army. There are some others, I'm sure, and I tend to favor union shops.

I agree with @Stan on Walmart, won't even walk into one of the stores.
When it comes down to artists there are some who I liked and because of things they have done in their personal life I can't enjoy their work.
Ted Nugent is a good example and Kevin Spacey.

No real or active boycotting, but....

WalMart. I try not to shop there. I've seen firsthand what their stores can do to small businesses. WM also squeezed manufacturers for low prices which has a ripple effect.

Hobby Lobby. Their birth control/insurance stance was outrageous beyond belief.

Jared Jewelers. Namely for their insulting "(but) He went to Jared" commercials. And I think diamonds are one of the biggest cons ever pulled on the world.

I'd be happy to boycott Hobby Lobby for those reasons; but realistically, I never shop there anyway.

Donating to charities is a bit different. My money is limited, I want the most bang for my buck, and I want it to benefit people that are close to me. I used to donate money to Susan B Komen; but when the Planned Parenthood crap unfolded, I pulled my payroll deduction and sent it directly to Planned Parenthood. I'm aware that they changed their minds; but I did not.

  7. Walmart historically treats its employees like crap, so I don't go there. Like @Stan I don't shop at Hobby Lobby anyway, so it's not really a boycott. I don't eat chicken (and not like there's one in the PACNW anyway) so boycotting Chick Fil A is moot.

Pizza, however, is something I do enjoy. I usually opt for our local pizza shop anyway, but I often have to squash my cravings for Papa Johns because the founder is an asshole who supports anti-gay activities and organizations and candidates. Fuck him.

I tend to go the opposite way supporting places that the the ultra conservatives want you to boycott.

I don't like Starbucks coffee, but I go there and proudly display my "War on Christmas" cups. Target or JC Penny display an interracial or gay couple in their marketing, hell yeah. I'll buy their crap. NFL players kneel for social justice? What do you know? I am now a fan of a quarterback who played for a team I don't particularly like....not buying a 49ers jersey though...ever.

Wal-Mart for their shady business practices. Fox News, Britbart, The Blaze, and Alex Jones for their politically motivated "reporting". Android phones for being an inferior copy and poor business ethics. Gasoline and coal companies for being corrupt, polluting, spreading misinformation, and paying off government representatives too. Plastic bags, since their lobbyists have more influence than any of us.

I am surprised that more people aren't boycotting more to save money and enact the change they want to see in the world.

I don't know if I "boycott" any particular one.

I don't go to Chick-Fil-A - mostly because I've found their stuff "meh" and not worth the money. (and I'm not that particular either...liking TacoBell, McD, Wendy's, etc)
But I don't appreciate their politics either.

There's certain places I won't go to...because time & time again, they've disappointed or pissed me off....Applebee's for instance.

    I'm a flexible, patient and non-picky person...but I have two criteria and I won't go back.
    1. Service - I do expect you to attend me...that's part of what I'm paying for. No, I'm not a diva...but waiting 30 minutes for a check...or 45 for a meal...or an hour to get sat...That's NOT good.
    2. Decent food for cost - Come on...not everyone is Taco Bell...if you charge bank...it better be worth bank. I don't mind paying a good amount...but it better be worth what you're charging for. And be GOOD.
Hell, even if it's just a bit...make it decent. I'm not going out to eat, just to eat. (that's why I hate buffets mostly...it's lots of blah food)
    I'm not picky.
But I'm not a sucker either.

    If I'm paying, you provide.
    If I didn't want that...I'd cook myself. (but sometimes I just don't want to...and I cook decent too) :)

If your food or service is crap...then I do NOT go there.

I feel the same way about CBS, MSNBC, CNN and the like for the same reasons.

    Funny how that works?

I also take Android over iPhone because I find them a better phone that lets me control it rather than being in a walled garden. My wife still uses an iPhone and its been a battery nightmare, even more fun now that apple admitted slowed down their old phones in court on purpose, something that was obvious to anyone familiar with computers.

So basically we boycott places for the same reasons, just opposite places...

    Hmmmm.

I don't boycott anyone or anything based on politics. Neither would I not watch a movie based on an actor's past. These kind of boycotts seem silly as hell to me.

The only factor I would consider would be knowingly causing massive environmental damage. And I see diamonds as worthless rocks, so with the current prices I would never be a customer anyway.

I make my own power on the roof of my house. And I have used the electricity choice option to purchase the rest of my power from the wind farms through the utility. This energy also powers my vehicle.

When the weather is above 30 F, I ride my bike to most places near me.

No it isn't funny at all. Yes, those media outlets have made mistakes in the past, but they aren't designed to favor one political party. Only MSNBC came after the Fairness Doctrine was repealed, and even they aren't promoting far left ideas (tax corporations, basic income, nationalization of public resources, etc).

Has Android ever fixed their battery exploding problems? How about the multiple old insecure operating systems that a fair amount of people still use? The number of cases of that happening is probably the same as the number of people whose phones got slowed down who didn't have gigabytes of photos, videos, tons of apps, and multiple tabs open...

And the Walled Garden isn't that bad when there are plenty of scam artists and con-men out there who will target Android phone users because they can get away with it.

These are the Android scams you should know about - AndroidPIT

Bullshit, they were call the Clinton News Network for years. You don't see it because you agree with it. The most balanced network in all this has been Fox btw, at least in terms of favorable/unfavorable coverage of Trump (its about 50-50). I at least admit my political bias. You honestly think because they are not full fledged commies they are somehow "better"?

You mean Samsung. Android is an operating system. The problem was in off market batters at first (you can no longer use them) and the Note 7. Yes its been "fixed" but who knows for how long as the race is longest battery and doing the most, that takes a lot of energy. iPhone had a few issues too.

So the solution is to brick (Basically, my iphone 3 takes 30 SECONDS to even open an app now, its laggy and useless, thanks apple) because some people don't update? Thats a their problem.

EVERYONE who owned an iPhone got slowed EVERY GOD DAMN ONE OF THEM, unless they didn't update the IOS which you are not allowed to ever downgrade. Your math is flawed.

APPLE, ON PURPOSE MADE YOUR PHONE SUCK SO YOU WOULD BUY A NEW ONE. Its not about security. I don't get why the left latched onto Apple, I guess cause back when it started they were fighting the giant Microsoft which was evil business stuff. Apple is a tax evading piece of shit company that used near slave labor and fucked your phones on purpose. Thats all there is too it. I also own 4 in my family, I'm the only one on android but I'm the only one who understand technology too.

Thats my call not who I buy it from. Its called freedom and sometimes it can burn you. At least my old phone still runs as good as the day I bought it. You enjoy that security, that same mind set btw had apple not telling people about a Mac virus because fuck reality, its about image.

Who are "they" that are calling CNN the Clinton News Network and are "they" the same people calling NBC - Nothing but Clinton Network, CBS- the Clinton BS network?

Are they the same loyal Fox News audience in denial that Hannity and Fox and Friends are little more than an extension of the Trump White House Press Office?

On boycotts, I have never set foot in a Walmart but I have taken close to $1/2 million from Walmart Foundation over the last 10 years to support community based programs. In my mind, it makes up for its treatment of its workers and its adverse impact on local communities to some degree.

The other "political" action I take is more in the nature of being supportive of "good" businesses by putting a significant share of my investments in Social Choice and Green mutual funds.

I don't boycott these, reading them is useful to know which conspiracy theory I'm going to be hit up with at work. Opposition research and all.
While I'm admittedly liberal, I find it hard to equate these. Mainstream media is always anti-administration. It comes with the territory. Bias in terms of what gets covered and what does not, will always be in the eyes of the beholder. I accept that conservatives and their preferred media see newsworthiness in things that I do not. I'll accept that you find yet another Clinton investigation to be newsworthy (how did the last few go?). What I will not accept is the "alternative facts" and conspiracy theories that prevail in your media of choice.
