Just don't go all Richard Simmons on us. It's a well-known fact that said sweatbands are a gateway accessory to full-on "I'm a pony, I'm a pony!"

    LeBron James wears one.

    Roger Federer wears one.

Why do you gotta go and bring up Richard Simmons, bro? He doesn't even wear one.

Here's my story: I used to be 6'1" and 125lbs. I started rock climbing and gained a small amount of weight in the form of muscle, but nothing remarkable. Eventually, I got a bit more serious and learned to squat and bench press. I've had a small routine based around those exercises for a while now and I'm up to around 150lbs. My goal is 175 or so, as long as it is mostly muscle. I don't mind being thin (I find it aesthetically pleasing), but what I do mind is looking weak.

I feel like if I just keep doing what I'm doing, I'll get there eventually. Though, I am always looking for a good routine to try out, considering I only have time to go to the gym 3 times a week. Not to mention, my gym is very small and has a very limited variety of equipment to use.

    Baraka_Guru,

    Just sayin'.

One minute you're a raging kickboxer, next you're Sweatin' to the Oldies.

LeBron is black and black people can wear whatever they want and it looks cool.

Federer is European (Swiss, IIRC) and Europeans are known for wacky clothes.

    Stop being so goddamn serious.

No way, man. Headbands are traditional attire for Muay Thai fighters. Their headbands are way wackier than the Nike thing I picked up. They have a long tassel and are supposedly blessed for protective properties during battle.

Start to worry about me when I decide to pick up arm bands with tassels.

    Don't get me wrong.

Crazy consultant at the gym had a point. Since I changed up my workout to include free weights, squats and modified push ups and pull ups, two weeks ago, I'm down 5 pounds. Even with muscle gain and thanksgiving. And I haven't been able to go as much as I wanted. Yay me. I noticed my pants kept slipping when we were out of town, to come home and find that yesterday morning I weighed 2 pounds less than I did the day before thxg.

    Nice work!

Free-weight and body-weight exercises trump "machines."

The pushup with all its variations is the perfect exercise.

    Oh and pullups. I'm jealous.

Modified pull ups... 45 degree plank position under the bar set at low rib cage height, then pull up. They suck, but it's better for my rotator cuff and fibro, than trying to pull my whole body up... You modify the angle as you progress. Do t be jealous.... I'm a total weakling. But ecstatic when I found that they got a new roman chair with arms that are actually close enough for me to use!

    Pull-ups?

Jesus Christ, man... do they not have Amazon.com in Kah-nad-ja?

Hell, I got to 20+ using that POS bar. It was worth the few bucks I spent on it.

I have since moved on to a floor tower but I can recommend the door models provided you pad the frame.

My apartment is ill-suited for those things. I've already looked into it.

None of the nearby parks have monkey bars or trees with handy pullup branches.

I'm not too worried. With all the heavy punches I've been throwing, my lats are coming in quite nicely.

    CinnamonGirl The Cheat is GROUNDED!

I started week 3 of Couch to 5k today. I was all, "what, why did I find this hard before? Laaaame!" And then I hit the last running interval and thought I was going to die.

Still, I'm definitely in better shape than the last time I attempted this.

Bonus Side Effect of pull/push ups: Boobs are already perkier. :)

That's my current girlfriend's secret. Lifting actual weights instead of Barbie dumbells keeps her arms hard and boobs perky. Really, lifting heavy is awesome for women. Dem quads, dat ass.

One of the biggest mistakes women make in terms of fitness is being afraid of throwing around the heaviest iron they can. The mistake is driven by buying into the myth that it's easy for women to get all bulky like men do.

Uh, sure, if you ask your doctor about testosterone treatment. And it's even really difficult to bulk up for a lot of guys. (Most guys prolly. Amirite, 9er?)

One of the hottest women I've ever seen at the gym was this particular location's resident female squatting/deadlifting expert.

    Female muscle is hawt muscle.

Cayvmenn tend to bulk up and get strong easily ( relatively easily anyway ) but we also tend to get fat easily ( waaay to easily ).
