Yes, it's from the Japanese anime series Utawarerumono.

My SO tells me the anime is based on an animated "erogame" (erotic game), but we aren't sure whether it bears the same name.

Last bit, a reply for Remixer: now that you mention the origins of the show, would you classify the anime as more akin to displaying fanservice!, or is it more blatantly gratuititous in its tittilating offerings (of the ilk of Queen's Blade? ... a series that I haven't seen, though I did just finish Hyakka Ryoran Samurai Girls, which comes to mind as probably more resembling the series you mentioned, just by referencing the one screenshot I posted - I didn't take the time to learn anything about utawaremomo {sp?} - I usually do jump on items that others recommend without question, so, this could turn up in my queue soon afterward. Perhaps this was too long an off-topic thought to be enclosed within the parentheticals.)

 

Well, as is with almost all fairly new and mainstream-oriented anime series, every one of them features fanservice and Ecchi. From what I remember, the fanservice/Ecchi factor in Utawarerumono wasn't very prominent, especially given the anime's origin. Instead of that, it actually has tons of gore and blood.

Also, I can't think of any anime that doesn't belong to the Hentai category that comes even close to the amount of fanservice/Ecchi as Queen's Blade. The two QB seasons include by far more naked breasts and erotica than any other anime I've ever seen or heard of.

If you want other animes with emphasis on fanservice/Ecchi, instead of Utawarerumono I'd suggest:
- Highschool of the Dead (you'll love it for the zombies and gore as well)
- Elfenlied (lots of fanservice but also lots of gore and violence; it's also considered one of the best animes ever made)
- To Love-Ru (high-school harem)
- Kanokon (furry highschool harem).
