    Recently started Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. So far it keeps me confused by skipping back and forth between characters in different time periods who seem to be descended from characters in The Baroque Cycle. Presumably their stories will start to tie together at some point.

    Two books, not quite sequels but set in the same future.

    Ship Breaker and The Drowned Cities by Paolo Bacigalupi

    I think they are more young adult in the reading level but the future world Bacigalupi has created is fascinating. If you can, also pick up The Windup Girl by the same author. Excellent.

    Currently reading the Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. I really liked what he did when he picked up on the Wheel of Time series and Patrick Rothfuss recommended the Mistborn series so I figured I would give it a go. So far I've really enjoyed them. It's an interesting world and he does a good job of keeping you on your toes.

    read Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco ...going to read that again next.
    (it was the The Da Vinci Code before there was a The Da Vinci Code...and MUCH more twisted and deep...you'll use ALL your knowledge to keep up)

    I LOVED Foucault's Pendulum! What an awesome book! Brilliant details, incredibly rich texture of associations, traditions, texts, concepts.... Still, I have to say, in terms of both characters and plot, I liked The Name of the Rose better, and Name of the Rose had nearly as rich a mix of texts, ideas, and associated details.

    BTW, speaking of oddball books, I just finished re-reading A Dictionary of the Khazars, by Milorad Pavic. Highly recommended. Extraordinarily quirky, lovely writing, and gorgeous use of somewhat esoteric material that nearly no one seems to use....
