Things that have aged well and things that haven't

Discussion in 'Tilted Entertainment' started by Baraka_Guru, Jul 18, 2012.

  1. The definition of great music is subjective, of course. The Doors have produced some good songs for sure. Great songs? Not so sure about that. I still think great music withstands the test of time.

    Aged well
    Einstein's Theory of General Relativity.
    Published 1916
Proved by now 10,000 times more accurately than initally. (by clocks accurate by +-1 second per 3.5 Billion years)
Also now proving even more complex warpings of space-time predicted by him.
(including just by the rotation of the Earth...think of a spinning ball in a fluid)

hmm...I think we can stop calling it a "theory" by now. ;)

    Not aged well
    NASA's space program.
    Established 1958
Worn, glutted and no real goals at the moment.
Needs to rebuilt, refunded and a fire lit under it. (sounds like a space shuttle... )

    My first response was

    Aged well = my butt-skin
    Aged badly = my forehead

    Then I read the thread.

OK ... I reckon Zep's 'Whole lotta love' has aged badly, but that Kashmir has aged well - imo, become almost immortal.

I reckon "The Evil Dead" Trilogy has aged well.
I'd like to see some re-runs of Moonlighting, to see how that has aged.

I reckon that St Paul's Cathedral has aged well.
But that the London Eye has aged badly.

That's too bad. Slinky appears to have lost it's mettle (metal).

I agree. Nothing of the Doors' sounded 'great' to my ears.

Revisiting the Steak thread, St Elmo's Steakhouse in Indy has aged exceptionally well.

    McDonald's, while a worldwide superpower, has grown into a soul-less, meat-optional crapslinger.

Flipping through the channels last night, I spotted something that has and hasn't, in some respects: ALF.

ALF himself is still pretty funny, but everything surrounding him seems really, really dated.

  8. I thought Batman (1989) aged extremely well. If Nolan hadnt breathed life back into that franchise the 1989 release would have been the BEST batman movie still. This is fact. Keaton and Nicholson were the best in their respective roles until Bale and Ledger.

As for music Bob Marley is still king of reggae.

Jurassic Park, for a movie that will be 20 next year the effects are still AMAZING.
