    I totally get that. It also sort of mortifies me how few people are book people--any genre of book. Television is passive and book reading is active. Given the right material, I love 'em both.

    I reaaaaally hope that he is working hard on the latest book. As much as I enjoy George R.R. Martin he is a slow as hell writer. I fear he'll never complete the series - he's not a young man anymore.

    I wish people would stop talking about how old he is and about how they're worried he's not going to make it. (Not against you personally, Daval )

    He's 63 and in robust health. (The wispy beard and the old-man glasses don't help.) He's not even retirement age yet, ffs. According to the U.S. life expectancy, he has another 15 years before we need to worry.

    It probably took him under 20 years to write the five books currently out.

    He only needs to write two more books. He says that's going to be 3,000 pages, which is only slightly more than his average per book.

    He's not likely to Jordan out on us. Jordan got some nasty disease.

    But look how great the (admittedly unfortunate) death of Robert Jordan worked out in completing the final book in Jordan's epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time! Brandon Sanderson was hand-picked by Jordan's widow to finish the series (after having worked closely with her spouse on it) and from the accounts I've heard, all has been going quite well.
