Wow. You'd think there has to be something more than bad chance to a thing like that.

Heart problems could be linked to steroids I guess.

You going to link those to the plane crash, the car crash and the lightening strike in too? At a stretch, maybe the drug OD is linked to football (or maybe not).

car crash could be related to heart problems certainly. obviously not the plane crash.

Sure it could have. But there are much more obvious answers, like the fact that he was speeding. Or that he was drunk.

Maybe, but maybe not. If you think of all the years and all the football teams that played those years, there's bound to be one with seemingly abnormally high suicide rates.

I am a football fan, I always find it funny that a lower quality team
will get a super star player and, well never get them any help?
As with Tomlinson, another was Walter Payton.
I guess these teams rely on these players to help build the team but
really can just one player do that in today's game ????

Yeah, basketball is really the only major american sport where one player can elevate the whole team. Look what LeBron did in Cleveland. He was surrounded by a bunch of tomato cans and he took them to the finals.

That is why I am glad I have always been a Green Bay fan. They build from the draft and with only a couple of exceptions (Woodson and White), they don't sign big name free agents.

The recent exception to this is/was Peyton Manning when he was at his peak. Look at how the Colts did for basically the last decade vs. what happened when he left. The last couple of years it was basically him putting the team on his back.

I also don't think that lower quality teams fail to TRY to get other players to surround their star. It's just not always that simple when they have to negotiate the salary cap, injuries, etc. And don't forget that that star player is often taking up a huge cap number too.

I would say if the Colts had a healthy Manning last year, they might have picked up 5 wins. Their defense was awful and there is nothing Manning could have done about that.

The offense orchestrating long scoring drives = best defense available

A great offense lets the defense rest, have a larger variation of strategy to employ, gives the coaches more time to analyze and adapt, and gives a larger margin for error. I don't think they would've won the SB with him healthy, but I think they would've been in the playoff hunt. I don't think there was a single other player who would've impacted his teams record more. Brees and Brady would be close.

    The Class of 2012

Willie Roaf, Jack Butler, Chris Doleman, Cortez Kennedy, Dermontti Dawson and Curtis Martin -- made it official before an intimate crowd at Fawcett Stadium.

Saturday evening's speeches were crisper than in years past, at least out of the chute. Along the way, we learned something about each of these NFL legends.
