Droid or iPhone?

  1. I'm surprised at how well it works without any learning curve

damn. it is a good thing :) esp if you have an unlimited plan, otherwise, 2Gb of surfing and email is pretty robust for my ipad use for 30 days.

Four gigs will get you pretty far, depending on what you're doing. If you're just surfing the web, you should be fine.

  6. After a weekend of no internet at the house, I have to admit that I prefer computer to smartphone for surfing the web. My phone's battery lasts a lot longer, too:)

All in all, I like the Thunderbolt so far, but I can't resist the fact that I can take two week tryouts on other phones before I make my final decision. A friend just got LG Spectrum and loves it. I've been offered a Revolution with an upgrade to Spectrum as an option. No harm in taking a test drive.;)

  7. First impressions of the Revolution: Don't much care for the slightly narrower display, And things seem just a little more difficult to do than with the Thunderbolt. The voice to text is less accurate and auto correct is more intrusive. Battery life may even be a bit worse.
On the plus side, the screen is a lot easier to see in the sun. I'll play with it a couple of days and make my choice.

Do you own a soldering iron? If yes, get a droid. If not, get an iPhone. Results may vary.

I really want to find some reason to argue that method but honestly every time I try I find myself actually thinking that's a pretty reasonable way of deciding.

Meh. I own both and am pretty happy with the arrangement. I would go further to say that if you are the soldering iron type of person, the limitations of the iPhone's hardware is no real impediment to you. Need to swap the battery? Get me a guitar pick (and a pentalobe bit).

I have both too, well access to both and I tether my ipod touch to the droid. iPhone 5 may be in my future since I enjoy iOS better than Froyo/Gingerbread. ICS hasn't really impressed me much.

I will still reserve my choice when the new apple device is announced.

I guess the solder comment is more about how much tweaking and changing you may be interested in doing. I'm not that way so much anymore. I just want the thing to damn work when I want it to.

Locking up or freezing for 30 seconds when I want to make a call is unacceptable.

That is something I'll give my old slow as balls blackberry. It took me less time to pull it out, hit the side button, start typing some arbitrary part of someone's contact information to narrow it down, select a contact, type out, and send a text or email than it does just to answer a phonecall on my Intercept.

  13. I'm kinda stunned by the strong emotions I've encountered since starting my smartphone quest. I looked at it as much like car shopping: compare features, test drive, find the model that makes you happy, buy and move forward.

I hear you. I think iOS vs. Android is like sports for nerds.

I've never had that problem with my Droid 3. I guess that's a relief :)

I think of it as religion, and some people take it more seriously than others.

I fought and fought getting an iPhone..now I dont know what I'd do without it. My hubby works in the field of building the anechoic chambers for multiple companies that make cell phones, and all I know is he'll never let me own a samsung lol. IF I had been unfortunate enough to be on Verizon, I'd never have bought the iPhone, since (unless its changed in the last few months) you can't talk/surf at the same time and I do an unbelievable amount of that.

I realize grumpy has his new phone, but for anyone else reading thru to make their own decision, keep in mind its not JUST the phone you need to look into, its what the phone will/will not do with your provider.

No matter how you look at it, iphone is old technology. Its old 3g, old battery tech, small hard to use. It falls into the realm of a 10 year old phone book. Even the cheapest droids are much faster, more reliable, more user friendly, and most have interchangeable batteries.
