    yea, and it was awesome... totally up there with moorcock and ra salvatore or any of the other greats. i tried to get into some later work he did... War of the Flowers or something like that... and didn't like it as much. but tailchaser's song, mem, sorrow, thorn, and the otherland books should be mandatory reading for the genre.

    I've heard as much about these two. I've heard Little, Big called the best fantasy novel ever written.

    I should probably read them both as well. :)

    I was thinking yesterday that I am about due for my yearly rereading of the Lord of the Rings. I really need to invest in an ebook edition as hauling around my omnibus can be a pain.

    Reading Count of Monte Cristo on my ipod touch for the first time in many years. Mainly reading it on my lunch break at work so far but I am enjoying it. Somebody played the 2002 film at work, so I decided to read the source material again to get the full story.

    I just finished Worlds Burn Through, and started on the sequel, Shadowed Ground, both by Vicki Keire. Easy reads, as they're young adult fantasy, but I like the story so far.

    The edition I have is very useful. It's the single volume Ciardi translation, and it's filled with notes.

    With the recent passing of Ray Bradbury, I'm thinking of reading his novel Dandelion Wine for its unabashed sentimentalism of childhood. I've been thinking more about my own childhood lately, which is something that tends to happen at this time of year. My birthday is in May, and so I have many fond memories of late spring/early summer.

    And who knows? Maybe it will send me off on a Bradbury kick....

    Just heard that American writer Ray Bradbury has passed.

    Very sad, he was an incredible science fiction writer, much like Jules Vern. He sold over 8 million books in his lifetime including "The Martian Chronicles" in 1950. Set the stage for advanced science fiction ideas & books that were very ahead of their time. Several books have been made into sci-fi movies we've all seen over the years.

    He will be missed. Check out his story anywhere online. No links available yet. Hopefully someone else will add those.

    (Please add any other info to this post regarding a great writer's passing.) Bon Voyage, Mr. Bradbury! And many thanks!!
