The Last Battle comes to my mind. I saw it in film class. It's an early Luc Besson film with Jean Reno as the antagonist. Suitably bizarre, entirely in French, and damn, I wish I had a copy.

I really like rogue49's format in proffering films for your (eventual) enjoyment, Rhynox; so, I'm going to adopt it, add to it, and additionally, leave an iOS App recommendation that might assist you in the future. (it is called 'Discovr Movies', and makes recommendations on other films in a network-tree-like format based on the initial films you liked).

Cube - a psychological thriller/horror which places a group of seemingly random strangers in an unfamiliar and deathly confined space. (1997, Canadia) [* -]
Creep - a horror film that takes place in the London tram and underground which starts out as unsettling and continually becomes more unjarring. (2004, Great Britain) [* -]
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie - this one film (perhaps with a subtle exception for Abre los ojos) perhaps best embodies my life's philosophy/experiences, and though I really don't like cementing lists on a sliding scale of best and/or worst, this film stands a chance of being classified as my personal favourite. (1972, France) [* -]
Twelve and Holding - this is a difficult sort of film to describe. I'll just state that it starts out as a group of young friends, who are all having a difficult time coping with the death of their mutual friend, and one's twin brother, over the course of what I believe is a deadbeat summer. Coming-of-age, I guess? Definitely dark. It's quirky and weird, but perhaps not in the vein you were looking for, exactly. (2005, United States) [* -]
The Tiger Makes Out - although this verges more akin to what you initially were looking for, I wasn't as impressed the first time I watched it. I was left confused, but perhaps you may find it more suitable. Black Comedy is the genre it falls under, I'd say. (1967, United States) [* -]

unwarranted aside not presently related to anything other than your handle: it's great. (I'd have preferred to see the 'y' supplanted with an 'i', but your way offers the difference in noticability.)

by the by - in this general and nebulous category you seem to enjoy and are willing to experiment with more of the ilk, you have been subjected to such staples as Demolition Man (1993), Stargate (1994) and Fargo (1996), am I presuming correctly? Last honourable mention I'll make is to The Blob (1958), a film in which I consider it to be the spiritual predecessor to The Thing (1982), mostly because the ending of the former perfectly fits into the plot of the latter. That's about all I have to offer right now. Hopefully you will find a measure of it useful.

The Green Butchers - (Black Comedy) A Danish flick is about two put-upon meat men who leave their jobs to start their own shop. When tragic accident coincides with a large catering order, dramatic hi-jinx ensue. I rented this once on a whim and I think I've seeked it out again three or four times over the years.

Equilibrium - (Scifi) I know this is definitely more main stream than other's entries, but I think this is a winner that got overshadowed by the similarly styled The Matrix. Christian Bale plays a type of Orwellian priest/police man responsible for finding and destroying anything that inspires human emotion.

Six String Samurai - (Post Apocalypse/Action) This is easily one of my micro budget favorites. A sword wielding would-be Buddy Holly has to cut his way across the bombed out Nevada desert to claim the throne of Lost Vegas when King Elvis dies. Along the way, he becomes responsible for a semi-mute orphan and has to face down murderous bowlers, cannibalistic suburbanites, truck driving cro-magnons, and a guitar solo battle against Death.

I'm sure I'll think of more later, but this will have to do for now.

Equilibrium - never mind being overshadowed by The Matrix, it wouldn't have happened without that one. It also owes quite a bit to Pink Floyd's The Wall (song lyrics and film visuals).

I was given a new recommendation just the other day that, I believe, fits the original premise of your opening query.

Motel Hell - is a horror comedy film directed by Kevin Connor and starring Rory Calhoun as farmer, butcher, and meat entrepreneur Vincent Smith. It is often seen as a satire of modern horror films such as Psycho and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Because of its low budget nature, the original intent was to make a serious horror film, with moments of disturbing wit and irony. {cut+paste} (1980, United States) [* -]

The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th Dimension

    Pretty darn hokey, but entertaining.

I'm going to have to give OldBoy another try. The people who talk about it seem to really love it. Last time I tried to watch it I was just really confused in the first fifteen minutes and found something more interesting to do.

Buckaroo Banzai is one of my all time favorites. When I joined this site I debated on using PerfectTommy as my name but obviously went a different direction. Another recommendation is Roadside Prophets, great movie with John Doe from the band X and Adrock (Adam Horowitz) from the Beastie Boys.
