Ugh. One of my workers emailed me saying that I HAVE to cover her shift on the 27th. I had to lay out the hard truth for her: I'm going to be out of town, she didn't request time off in time, and I'm the boss. I don't HAVE to do anything.

Isn't a two-week notice more than enough to re-organize shifts?

Most companies want a minimum of 30 days.

Don't get it, though. We run a team of highly-skilled engineers, and re-organizing shifts/jobs never takes us longer than 2 days.

I'd wager that if there is a will to get it done, it can be done. ;)

  7. We do it all of time, but it takes circumstances to align properly. If some other staff member has already made arrangements and the times conflict, we can't always accommodate. It's a request/approval process, though. Just messaging a manager that they have to cover your time is a near guaranteed denial. Besides that, snowy already booked the time off for herself.

    Insubordination is grounds for termination.

How the hell can I write a paper with the recommended resources if 75% of the recommended resources are not available in our library or on the internet?
I am not buying 10 books and 14 articles for three five-page papers in a 2 credit class.

I'm having a bit of naked time before I hit the shower. It was a great day--friends came over, we brewed two batches of beer, and I made grilled pizzas.

Work totally kicked my ass. But it's oooover now, and I'm technically off for the next two days. "Technically" because I'm babysitting tomorrow night, and there's a meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
