    I woke up this morning to a neighbor ringing my doorbell. It seems that the horrible storms we had roll through last night from midnight to 2am caused the field at the edge of our subdivision to dump a 2' deep stream of water and field debris down our street. One neighbor who was up at the time said the water was up over the headlights of his car.

    Fortunately my house is high enough I had no water. Unfortunately the front half of my yard is not, and it was covered about 3"-5" deep in cornstalks, leaves, corn cobs, and other misc bits from the farmer's field. So I got to spend the last 2 1/2 hours outside in the rain cleaning it up and helping the neighbors clean up their yards. The city did send a work crew out to help clean out the gutters and street and they were nice enough to lend a hand with our yards or I'd probably still be out there.

    I was too frustrated and half asleep to think about snapping a 'before' pic. But here was after the worst of it was cleaned up. They hauled two entire dump truck loads away. Most of it was in my yard and my next door neighbors yard. My neighbor's is the house with the red Mustang and black Range Rover. I'm just past that. What a mess.

    Borla, wow, that's a mess even after being cleaned up. I can only imagine what it looked like beforehand.

    I hate Mondays. I don't get any break today--I spend my lunch break in a meeting. Ugh.

    You see the neighbor lady in the driveway on the right pushing the mess down towards the street?

    Imagine the pile around her stretched all the way to the curb, and across two and half yards up the street. That's what it looked like before.

    I was wondering why I was laying in bed hearing heavy equipment at 7am.

    It could have been worse. One of our neighbors was gone on Friday night when the big storms rolled through Chicago. Lightening and/or wind dropped a 2 1/2' diameter branch from a cottonwood tree through their bedroom while they were out. Fortunately, their nextdoor neighbor was home and heard it and called the husband on his cell. They are getting a new roof plus new hardwood floors in their bedroom. I didn't take a picture of it, but it looked like there was a tree growing out of their roof since the base of the branch was embedded in the roof and the rest was hanging out.

    Yeah, all of the damage was easily cleaned up, nothing was broken. My neighbor who rang the bell thought we'd already left for vacation and was just checking if we were home, he was about to call my cell.

    I am fortunate enough to have mostly very good neighbors, so we were all kind of helping each other out, and had I been on vacation I probably would've still come home to a clean yard.
