I've stayed at the Mariott Marquis:

San Diego, CA Hotels | San Diego Hotel | San Diego, CA Hotel

And the Manchester Grand Hyatt:

San Diego California Hotel - Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego

Both of which are by the water and across from the Naval base, which is good so your boytoy can watch the ships while you're watching sailors.

They're next to one another and within easy walking distance of the Gaslamp and the baseball field. Public transportation is also right outside both if you decide to go somewhere else. I highly recommend both, but I like the Hyatt better.

 

You're kidding, right? It's called SCIENCE!!! They took the remains of people that lived in that area during that particular time period and pooled the stats to get an idea. It's like one of those "What will your baby look like?" mom-and-dad Photoshop mash-ups. Except a lot more scientific. Pencil erasers on skulls, reticulated faces and all that. I'd imagine it to be a lot more accurate than the lily white bullshit I see in your typical nativity scene.

 

Jesus. Depressing morning at the pet hospital. Not helping the generalized funk i've been feeling the last few days. Where did my happy go? I hate it when that happens.

When I was in HS, I used to help un-box new textbooks and shelf them before they were issued out.

I like new book smell, especially after being shipped in a box and it's had time to accumulate.
I haven't smelled a collection of new hardbacks since I left the Science Fiction Book Club. Kinda miss it...

I'm about to quit my membership after 20+ years because they suck and I'm finally ready to admit that I can get the 2 anthologies I buy every year elsewhere.

 

That was part of the reason I left.
Better ways to buy elsewhere, plus, they kept sending me books if I missed my chance to cancel their special selections.

Got to be a hassle.

 

I loved the movie Invictus and do have some respect (somewhere in the wide universe) for the SpringBoks.

But really. You want to compare them to the ANZAC teams? The All Blacks polish the lawn with the SpringBoks' faces most of the time.

I understand reality does not matter to a fangirl.

Let's not even compare rugby teams to those pussy American Football teams.

Fucking hell, I hate everything today.

 

NOT a "fangirl." I've been playing for 1o years. Prop, Lock, Flanker, 8-man. Sometimes wing for shits and giggles.

I understand that the All Blacks are great. Being a fan of them would definitely make me a fangirl. It seems as if any one in the US who "likes" rugby is an All Blacks fan, because, yeah, they're great. Let's all do the Haka!

I picked to follow the SpringBoks because I want to visit South Africa some day for other reasons. When I started playing in college I wanted to find a national team to follow and I was in an African Women's Lit class that I really liked. I was attracted to the Springboks and have stuck by them ever since. This was BEFORE Invictus, which yeah, is one of my favorite movies. I studied apartheid and play rugby.

I don't tend to bother with anyone under 35. Nice to look at the young bucks though, but that's it.
