You see that? Now that is an exotic fruit.

I dare anyone on this forum to cut open, spoon the content of and eat an entire Durian fruit's insides.

Uh, last time I checked, Baraka_Guru was Canadian.

It isn't a question of adventurousness--it's a question of availability, Remixer. We can only be as adventurous as what we can find. Not all of us are able to travel as much as you do. Good luck finding one here. I might be able to find one in a market in Portland if I really searched, but it just isn't worth it. I would try it given the chance, though. The promise of something that has that many flavors as a possibility--sounds great.

And a Torontonian, which means that a ton of that durian shit comes through here. Actually, a lot of stuff does. I might even be able to get a seahorse skewer for all I know. Though I don't know why one would want to. To me it's along the same lines as perhaps ordering a unicorn steak or a pixie pot pie.

I realize that. It doesn't help his case.

snowy , if you knew the Durian fruit, you'd realize I was daring in jest. The fruit's meat tastes nice, but the smell is horrendous. Oh God, the smell...

Also, the amount I travel speaks little for my food adventures. I did most of my culinary experimentation in Sydney before I really started to travel. After I started to travel, it's usually conservative, comfort or Fine Dining foods... which is hardly adventurous, when the really exotic stuff is found in other countries' street foods. :D

I've called durian fruit many things much worse than shit. Also, if you have the opportunity to do some serious exploring, WHY POMEGRANATE?! It tastes nice, though.

I would not eat a fried seahorse. Just dont fancy it... if that makes me a coward so be it!

My Dad is a lot worse than me... if he goes out to eat he goes to the same restaurant and eats the exact same meal every time. I've tried to say to him "why dont you just order something else"... his answer is "I know I like this, why risk it? what if I dont like the other meal?" I am not that bad, but I also dont go out of my way to try things that do not look appealing and I suspect would disgust me just for the sake of "trying something new"

No, I got that. And I honestly would try it. I will try anything once, even if it smells like stinky socks or Indian food diarrhea or whatever else durian has been compared to. I realize you haven't been around TFP that long, but this isn't the first time durian has come up in conversation--we talked about it over on 4.0 somewhere.

Gotcha. I've tried it and it was a weird taste. Was good, but in a can't-quite-100%-put-it-whether-I-actually-like-it sort of way.

    Ayashe Getting Tilted

Hong Phat MarketPics or it didn't happen.

That was an old post and the link to the actual shop doesn't seem to lead anywhere, can't say for sure it actually exists any longer.

I know I have seen it available here in MN at a Thai restaurant, unsure if fresh or canned. I didn't try it personally.

As far as the OP is concerned, I don't think I could stomach something like that. First of all, it is food with a face.. even an insect face I don't think I could keep something down that still had a head on its shoulders.

Should I happen to be in that part of NE, I'll take a look :)

If I was drinking or severely hungry, I'd eat just about anything. If I was both, then I would probably eat everything.
