Howlin' Wolf's recording of Willie Dixon's "Spoonful" is one of my favourite blues recordings.

Here, for your enjoyment, are both.

    Post some of your favourites.

Feel free to post photos of your favourite artists as well.

And, of course, discussion of the blues as a whole is more than welcome.

I'm currently learning the ins and outs on guitar, so I'm doing a lot of listening these days.

You're so into blues, all of a sudden. That's pretty awesome.

How bout some John Lee Hooker:

Or maybe Lightnin' Hopkins is more your speed:

    Or Freddie King:

I could fill a few threads with these. We'll start with three.
Check out the playlist I made - all 5 versions of the Wire theme song. Greatest show ever and a study in 12 bar blues form:A
The Tom Waits version is my favorite.

    How 'bout some Pinetop Perkins:

Or some more John Lee Hooker:

I've always enjoyed the blues. It's only now that I'm expanding on that enjoyment and giving in to indulgence.

Just about everyone posted in this thread is in my playlist...and there are more.

How much do I love this thread? So very much.

I don't know much about blues...but I like to listen. I think Martian introduced me to this one, and I enjoy it much:

While the Black Keys aren't necessarily blues artists, they are heavily influenced by blues and soul music. If somehow you haven't heard of them by now, you're missing out.

this is an awesome thread by the way

OOOOO, a topic that I actually know something about. Growing up near Chicago, acts that played in the city on the weekend came out to the suburbs during the week. I used to sneak into the blues clubs when underage. Albert once bought me a beer while the backup band was playing.

Damn, that would have been 40 years ago, around the time of the clips.

Albert was notoriously cranky on stage and was known for abusing sound men, even firing a bass player in the middle of a set.

To a 16-17 year old kid on a fake ID, he was very personable and friendly. He was seriously interested that a new generation appreciated his music. We talked about other musicians that I ought to check out, where his music derived from, and where it was headed.

My beard and ID weren't that great, I'm sure he knew that I was underage; but he bought me a beer before he excused himself to go play.

  18. Some think that Janis is an acquired taste. I think she should be required listening.
