reminds me of a 'funny' viet nam story...

during and after the tet offensive of jan/feb 1968, quite a few of us were 'selected' to establish guard stations around our base in which we ended up living for a few weeks. the powers that were finally let us return to our home units one morning. on our way back, a bunch of APs decided that we were needed to guard the road from the aerial port to the main base as an important visitor was coming in. we took up our positions every fifty yards or so in our scruffy splendor until we were relieved after about ten minutes. seems the powers that were had decided that we were too scruffy-looking to be seen by our then commander-in chief on what was to be his last visit to the 'war zone.'

good thing there wasn't a war going on or something...

Well, because it was 4 in the morning here. I'll set my alarm next time :)

I'm way behind on my "read 100 books this year" goal. I started out doing really well, but not reading anything for a couple weeks, and then rereading The Hunger Games threw me way off.

I'll bet you have quite a few good stories, uncle phil. I always think of the Tet offensive in Vietnam when I think of my ex who served there during that period, too. I was only 8 years-old at that point in the war but as you know, they televised even 'scruffy' images from back then every evening (while we ate dinner). Hell, the scruffy images were the most disturbing. Then came the photos in the newsmagazines. I have no idea how you got through it and lived to be able to recount it but I'm glad you did.

    I hate this paper.

Oh, and thank you music gods, I figured out what was wrong with the bass on my speakers. I nearly spazzed.

Holy motherfrackinggarbledinsanecursinginsertedhere... Somehow, halfway through my paper, the font shifted to 11pt. I've been struggling with how to bullshit through another 7 pages to get closer to the faculty's "approximate essay length". When I corrected it, I ended up with SEVEN additional pages... putting me at 29 pages of text, 34 total. Holy fucking head-desk moment.

Such a nice feeling to wake up refreshed and alert. And there is still time to do something useful or interesting as it is not even 3 pm yet.

They find her vagina in North Carolina
And her ass was somewhere near Dallas

Imagine a 4'11" gay man saying that! It made me laugh so hard!

Too scruffy, lol. You wonder why or how certain people become or are in charge. Now that war zone was horrific, nothing like watching TV at 10 years old. I still remember the images.

All excellent reads, IMO. Hmmm... some good re-reads here, as well.

That "report.zip" file attached must be important. I had better rush and open up that with IE to see what it is.

note to self: "like" and "reply" are NOT the same button.
On to what I was trying to say - my personal answer for that one is go to work and call it friday. Monday mornings are always something for me to look forward to, and the prospect of actual sleep that night is something even better to look forward to.

The Puppet Masters is another example of an excellent book and "ok" movie at best.
The way they dumbed down the bugs in the film version of Starship Troopers was atrocious.
