So apparently the organizers of the London Olympics contacted the manager of The Who and asked if legendary drummer Keith Moon would perform at the Olympics. Great idea, except no one quite knows how to turn him into a zombie drummer. Since he's been dead for 34 years (didn't he say "I want to die before I get old"?), it's unlikely he'll show up.

Never turn a water valve to the left, unless you want water spraying everywhere flooding the bathroom. Yeah, I had an interesting night.

Cool. I've neither read nor watched Starship Troopers. I know there is a big to-do with both the novel and the film, albeit for different reasons. I've stayed away from the book, partly because I get the feeling that Heinlein has written better books, and partly because I can't unread this: Starship Stormtroopers.

It's an essay by none other than Michael Moorcock, who reinvented the sword & sorcery subgenre (after Conan, etc.) in the midst of the rising fantasy a la Tolkien (about which he wrote another essay, "Epic Pooh," discussing middle-class sentimentalism and other things "wrong" in fantasy: RevolutionSF - Epic Pooh : Feature).

Moorcock (a decent literary/genre writer in his own right) does come across as a curmudgeon. And I don't agree with him on everything in the fantasy essay. However, like I said, I can't unread what I've read in both. Ursula Le Guin also takes issue with the militarization of science fiction (she's a "social science fiction" writer. Think: Huxley, Orwell, Vonnegut, and Wyndham), and it was one of the reasons why she "gave up reading it." Starship Troopers seems to be one of the main influences on this kind of sci-fi, which I think became more mainstream during the 1970s.

All told: There are a few books by Heinlein I'd want to read before even considering Starship Troopers, movie or no movie.

Sometimes things are so beautiful they overwhelm me. Confetti petals decorating the air on a breeze that grazes my neck. Nature, you revitalize every funk within which I descend.

two weeks from graduation and it is so hard to concentrate and stick to my studying.
part of me wants to say 'fuck it!' and just skate through the rest of the semester.
another part of me thinks, 'oh noes, what if they don't like me because of my B in chemistry!'
(them being the nursing program at UCF)
    I am so frigging pathetic.
If I was as obsessively anal about money as I am about my grades, I'd be a total f-ing gazoolionaire by now.

Extra cash is great. I'll be able to buy myself new running shoes sooner than I thought.

Brains are her main course typically, and those are for a light snack.
